JOB RESPONSIBILITY... There was a most important job that needed to be done, And no reason not to do it, there was absolutely none. But in vital matters such as this, the thing you have to ask Is who exactly will it be who'll carry out the task? Anybody could have told you that everybody knew That this was something somebody would surely have to do. Nobody was unwilling; anybody had the ability. But nobody believed that it was their responsibility. It seemed to be a job that anybody could have done, If anybody thought he was supposed to be the one. But since everybody recognised that anybody could, Everybody took for granted that somebody would. But nobody told anybody that we are aware of, That he would be in charge of seeing it was taken care of. And nobody took it on himself to follow through, And do what everybody thought that somebody would do. When what everybody needed so did not get done at all, Everybody was complaining that somebody dropped the ball. Anybody then could see it was an awful crying shame, And everybody looked around for somebody to blame. Somebody should have done the job And Everybody should have, But in the end Nobody did What Anybody could have. by Charles Osgood. |

Our Thread of Puns For tuppunce, would our topic change. From shoes, to booze -- an average range. We know not where our journey leads, Our thread of puns has many beads. * The lures, withstood, to enter prose. Still free to choose -- let others, care. Our wits, we bare -- to puns, repair. * * * jm 20 Jan. 2014 |

There will be no "Howl", from me. ;o) Ageing Ageing, ageing, we all fall apart. Each one, unique -- from life, we disembark. Squinting through our spectacles, to read the daily news, To features of our many friends -- who've paid their final dues. With cane, firmly grasped, we totter down the street -- Anticipating words of cheer, through hearing-aids, that squeek. Wheezing, after jokes are told -- the youngsters are alarmed -- We gather strength, enjoy time's gift. . . and spin another yarn. We've bought the farm. We've bought the yarn. Through memories, we'll sift. * * * jm 22 Jan. 2014 |

This one is somewhat specialized, but Julie booted my muse in the behind, and so he/she urged me to enter. . . The owl house, does, in fact exist, and now has one -- or two, hopefully -- Eastern Screech Owls. Flying in/out of the same box have been numerous White breasted nuthatches, which I thought, originally, were Chickadees. A lady from Mass Audubon, corrected me -- but, not until this poem was written. No changes have been made, lest the rhyming scheme be compromised. The reasons for the WBN's habituation of the box, are varied, but will not be listed, lest everyone goes to sleep. . . * Chick-a-dee-dee There once was a chick-a-dee-dee, Who boxed all her eggs, in a tree. The young owl, inside, asked, "From who do you hide?" "The hawk -- not your grammar -- I flee!" * * * jm 13 February 2014 |

Oft-times, one's muse is stimulated when reading the Wall Street Journal . . . Perspective * "Where has our money gone? The jobs, created, few." *1 "We won't invest, a dime -- until we get our way." * "We cannot buy your goods, without a decent pay." * "We'll vote you out, next time. There's more of us, than you. *1 "In gated towns, we'll wait, your votes will count for dust." *1 "Democracy, for us. And, trinkets, left, for you." *1 "Democracy is power -- but, power, for the few." - - - * View, from the outside. *1 View, from the inside? (Hopefully, not.) * * * jm 21 Feb. 2014 |

If a U.S. citizen may share a view, from afar. . . Ukraine, Ukraine Ukraine, Ukraine . . . you strain your eyes to see -- North's Moscow onions, South's blue Black Sea. The west winds blow soft waves of grain, their thirst assuaged by nurturing rains. A story, old, for enclosed land -- with guidance from the Motherland. A future set -- by "Da", or "Nyet". * * * jm 3 March 2014 |

Oh, my aching head! Asterisk When college degrees lead to jobs, in professions that result in automation, that result in fewer jobs, in professions that don't result in automation, that will result in fewer jobs for those in professions not automated -- When those professions become automated, * jm 12 March 2014 |

I Can See Them I can see the Russians, with my binoculars! The're so clear! Oh! They're, actually, here! They say they came to Alaska to protect its Russian-speaking citizens. The US Government still wants to negotiate. * * * jm 14 March 2014 |

Hello Lynn, Julie, Jim Martin, Daniel Michel and everyone in our SETI@home community. I hope you are feeling well today. I"m feeling well. Best Wishes Byron I'm not very good at writing poetry But I love this Poem or is it a Song? from the Film: Doctor Zhivago (1965) ![]() Somewhere, my love, there will be songs to sing Although the snow covers the hopes of Spring Somewhere a hill blossoms in green and gold And there are dreams, all that your heart can hold Someday we'll meet again, my love Someday whenever the Spring breaks through You'll come to me out of the long-ago Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow Till then, my sweet, think of me now and then Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again Someday we'll meet again, my love Someday whenever that Spring breaks through You'll come to me out of the long-ago Warm as the wind, and as soft as the kiss of snow Till then, my sweet, think of me now and then Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXtFRl1nSs4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrZa7R5_qHY |

After a few weeks, following the death of my Sony VAIO, am back with a Del (haven't quite yet figured out how to rotate the "E", yet). And, so . . . Job Opportunities Comrades, in Europe! Do you need work? Help glorious Motherland rebuild Iron Curtain. Free black bread, cabbage, vodka (in moderation) -- plus, paycheck. Your name will be inscribed on bronze plaque under glorious flag of Soviet Union 2.0. Urge elected officials to give serious consideration. Comradely yours, V. Putin Pres., Russia * * * jm 9 April 2014 * I trust these lines won't offend; if they do, feel free to delete them, Julie. |
