Surprisingingly, a +2. To add to that, there is a danger currently that the current lot in parliament as well as those on the backbenches & in shadow cabinet are not that well clued up on British history & may, just may destroy some of what was built up in the past. |

I've got to commend for your attempts, but you won't even make a scratch. You're still missing the most important issue. ..... ...there are some excellent ministers & M'P.s in this country, regardless of their seniority, the issue is the Civil Service - You know that is a fact! |

60% levy? An ideal stomping ground, next year, for the fat-cats to go buying up property, including commercial property, at rock bottom prices. When this debacle finally gets relegated to the annals of history, 10 to 15 years down the line, then there's going to be some big-big profits to be made.... ....who's going to be in on the act....I have my suspicions!! The clever money won't, it has already gone elsewhere and won't be coming back. Hedge funds ... |

Possibly, but you would need to tie up capital for 10-15 years with no interest, to take a gamble on that. The clever money won't, it has already gone elsewhere and won't be coming back. Cyprus will be downgraded to the likes of Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece, that can only survive on tourism. Investing in property never pays you interest. You make on the rent you charge plus any capital gain in the properties value over the years to come. The thing is, storing large sums of money in banks can only make sense when the equity market (stocks and bonds) is negative. Example, if someone had $100K in equity funds in 2007 and moved that $100K to 'cash' then, and returned to the equity market two years later -- they'd have $250K in those funds. Heck, even those who got nailed in 2008 would be OK today. That is one of the reasons the US stock market is doing well today -- the low interest rates encourage people not to 'park' money in banks and savings account. As to the real estate market -- similar story, if you got out in 2007 -- say at $250K, and re-entered in 2012, you would have been able to purchase 50% or more real estate for the money and watch it appreciate as the market recovers. Timing was everything. Of course when it is the market that drops, that is called a 'correction' and for capitalists it is purely moral. When the government takes a piece instead, that is called a 'hair cut' and expropriation and therefore evil. |

The thing is, storing large sums of money in banks can only make sense when the equity market (stocks and bonds) is negative. Location, location, location. Amazingly where I live, there never was a drop in RE values. The rate of increase did slow, but the neighborhood never lost value. Location, location, location. Timing was everything. It is a redistribution and regressive. |

I live in the Scottsdale area -- market tanked big time (perhaps a 40% drop in values by 2011). We didn't care, home was paid off years ago and we didn't get hustled to take out available money from a low interest home equity loan and spend it on American things. The bank dropped our home equity line by 60% -- we have all of $10K in the loan (new roof and paint) -- didn't care. Now prices are up by close to 15% from a year or so ago. Regarding redistribution -- see we agree, the market drop was a redistribution. The concentration of wealth to the top 1% over the past 30 years is a redistribution and it IS regressive.

With all these "Too Big to Fail" and "Too Big to Jail" excuses it's a nice breathe of fresh air when you come across an article where the Banksters get what they deserve. Ok, they probably didn't get them all but it's a good start. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/30/iran-bank-fraud_n_1720906.html The surprising thing is that I never heard a peep about it on the news. I wonder why??? I guess our enlightened leaders don't wants us poor folks that end up paying for all these screw-ups to any get ideas!!! Seems one of the Banksters got out of the country just in time and is hiding out in the law abiding democracy of Canada in a $3 million home. You would figure the crooks would be going the other way to escape the law. Franz |

No, the rich are rich because the they have achieved an imbalanced cash flow, progressive taxes could resolve this problem though <smile> All taxation is regressive. The rich just fire staff until the cash flow balances. ;) |

It always was, and is, a gimmick. Anyone investing in that was just asking for trouble. Back on the 5th this was predicted. So? Why is anyone surprised? |
