Well as long as it wasn't this daylight...

That Daylight ran down the track I was out along today, a few years ago. (It also ran there in 1975, when it was painted red white and blue.) Right now, it's being torn apart for its mandatory 1472 day inspection.

Sounds good, something that I'd hope will be alright and hopefully won't require any new parts to be made.

It will have to get new flues, of course, but that's minor and to be expected.

Well it could be worse, it could be one of the surviving Allegheny locomotives, the C&O 2-6-6-6 version, My favorite and probably pound for pound the one with the most horse power in steam or diesel currently...

Nobody's even talking about restoring a 2-6-6-6 that I'm aware of.

261 will be hitting the road in a couple months for the first time in four years. 765 is doing nicely, although in my opinion it seems like NS is treating it as an ugly stepsister while 630 gets most of the attention. UP is making noise about doing a Big Boy. And then there's this promising little idea. The latest from them is that they would need to raise enough money not only for the restoration but also to build a shop to do it in and maintain her once it's done.

No, I doubt anyone is, it would probably need a new boiler among other parts... It's just My favorite locomotive.

There is only one locomotive that is the most famous in the world.

SCotsman
