The place to discuss your problems, rather than the server relocation, is in "Number Crunching".Sure it is Rob, but mucking your way thru that Fora is a nightmare. Yes, it is. Especially with the thread titles there. Who would expect a thread title Panic mode on to be a general Q&A thread? I don't even think there are threads with the BOINC / SETI wiki's sticked there or even in Q&A. As the same issues come up over and over big pointers to those help references should be there. Also perhaps the fora name of Number Crunching should be changed to Number Crunching & Assistance. Perhaps in Q&A a "Help! I can't get it to start working" fora and a "Help! It used to work and it quit" fora. Otherwise people will post questions here because the admins post here and they want direct help from the admins as they are at the end of their rope. |

Gary brings up a very good point. Number Crunching must be very intimidating to a new cruncher. For the most part we dont like to mod an Admins thread. Yes there are cases of hate and flame wars and video links to obscene material that we take care of, But off topic and questions for help were left alone. Fred is asking the Admins for clarification. Also perhaps the fora name of Number Crunching should be changed to Number Crunching & Assistance. Or maybe "Processing & Work Flow Issues" Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

I would go for "tech shtuph" or something equally as brief. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Shorthand for Tech shut up! I gathered as much. "Tech talk" was my suggestion for a renamed "Number crunching" if the powers that be find it necessary to rename it. |

Also perhaps the fora name of Number Crunching should be changed to Number Crunching & Assistance. The "Politics" forum would also benefit from being renamed to "Politics and Religion" as this is where the threads on the latter either start or get moved to. Most forums have them clumped like this as they are the inflammatory subjects that need constant watch from the moderators. |

Also perhaps the fora name of Number Crunching should be changed to Number Crunching & Assistance. I applaud the mods for giving more leeway there than in the more frequented forums. Unless it comes down to knock down drag outs, they are pretty reasonable in allowing the discourse to take it's path there. Dunno what actually was improved, but DL of WU is now way, way faster. No more broken DL and retries for a standard 6.03 WU or an AP. Thanks, the relocation solved this problem as well. ;-) |

Shorthand for Tech shut up! "Tech talk" doesn't sound any more newbie-friendly than "Number crunching". How about "Tech Help & Talk"? David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Since the relocation of the servers, I have noticed a marked improvement in "download and upload" speeds. Before the relocation, the speeds were almost unbareably slow and somewhat "iffy". Now, however, I can see 50 files download and or upload in as little as 45 seconds to one minute. I don't know what the relocation team did in addition to the relocation, but things have improved in a dramatic way. Great job for the relocation team! |

For internal reason the link to the old "server closet" was restricted to 100meg and became saturated very easily. Now the servers are located in a dedicated facility they have access to a 1Gb link(as far as we can tell) so the link no longer slows traffic down. The next bottleneck will probably be the speed the data can be written to disk. |

Hi Juan, Hi Last post from him: he is good and arround but have some personal stuff to fix, so we hope he will be back with us soon and give his usual hand to help the project. We all miss him. |
