I am happy putting my computer to good use, but find quite often when i am watching a movie on my computer Boinc is running in the background slowing my computer. How can i make it only run when im not using my computer.

Through the preferences.

But watching a movie means that you're not using the computer, as watching a movie does not include tapping on the keyboard or moving the mouse around. So even then BOINC will restart in the background.

Better is to use the <exclusive_app> option in the client configuration file (cc_config.xml). This will suspend BOINC when it detects the application specified in memory and only continue after that application has left memory.

In the task bar on the bottom of windows, look for the Boinc Icon, then right click it and click exit. That should close every Boinc process.

Actually, it won't. Not when you have not set "Stop running tasks when exiting the BOINC Manager" at least once.

When you unchecked that option and set "never remind me again", you will always exit only BOINC Manager, while BOINC and the science applications continue running.

It's also not what the original thread starter asked for.
