What is meant by "forgiveness"?

"Forgiveness" and "absolution" is not the same. God is supposed to forgive us for the sins we are making.

Absolution is the way the church is forgiving our sins (without asking what sins we made).

Can we perhaps ask God for forgiveness or absolution if an earthquake kills a half million people?

Probably not so. In the end nature is the ultimate winner.

Folly of the Brainiacs...

The odds of a universe just right for life to form and thrive to produce us are more years then the universe has been around. This fact for the reason we cannot reproduce anything that starts from simple to become more complex implies intelligence--design. Science says...LOL depends on the brainiac!

To which some will posit multi-verses. And I will say--prove it, we know of only one, the one we are in.

I will also say that we are indeed more complex then the universe itself. That only brings the odds of a accidental universe that is tuned for our life even higher.

The universe and nature implies that complex things happen---from simple to more complex. Things combine, are crushed in the heart of a star and form more complex things that appear to be for life. For more complex life.

Not only does the above happen, but we cannot copy it. What we do in time, turns to dust. We copy nature, we mimic, but do so with only what we have been given. We create nothing. Only thought can it be said that we create. And even that is a Gift from God.

It's proof of a universe with life in it, nothing more. To my mind "I exist therefore God" is a non-sequitur (Logic. an inference or a conclusion that does not follow from the premises). The ontological argument (that, to some degree, appears to inform C.S. Lewis) has some wonderful parodies (I particularly like the "no devil" parody).
