I didn't "X" I.D. I have no idea what he has done this time. He hadn't posted before I went out, and I didn't boot up when I came in, and only noticed first thing this morning he was vacation, again.

In fact the only times I have done is when he has posted pseudo-science on the Science (non-SETI) board and to get it moved somewhere else. But I do know he has "X" me.

Have you noticed that one of the reasons temperatures have risen faster in recent years is because legislation in the western world has reduced dust emissions and more sunlight is reaching the ground.

One of the reasons reasons along with somewhat lower solar output that we are actually in a cooling cycle is that the Chinese, Indians and others are dumping a lot of fly ash into the atmosphere as they ramp up industrial production and the electricity to power it.

Hundreds of snowfall records here in the States along with thousands of low temperature records this winter.

Volcanic eruptions ‘contributed to global warming pause’, scientists claim

Rather than contributing to global warming, eruptions release particles into the air that reflect sunlight – causing temperatures to drop.

In 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century occurred when Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines exploded with enormous force, killing almost 1,000 people and causing widespread damage.

Millions of tonnes of ash and gas were blasted into the atmosphere from the mountain, reaching an altitude of 21 miles.

Over the next two years, average temperatures across the whole of the Earth fell by up to 0.5C.

A well documted phenomen, often refered to as nucular winter.

California farmers brace for little or no water amid extreme drought

It baffles me that in what is ostensibly the worlds richest country (for now), they might still have to ration water. There's plenty of water, observe the following graphic:

Sure, maybe it's a bit salty, but this is 2014, there are many methods of desalinating water, if the UAE can do it, America can!

Not sure that CA has the electricity to run water desalination plants.

America as a whole has enough nuclear material lying around (now that it's no longer pointed across the Pacific) to supply plenty of electricity.

US is a Continental Country.

California alone is almost TWICE the size of the UK, and Southern California is basically a Desert.

Comparing the UK with the US, is like comparing the UK with Siberia regarding Climate and assorted Fixes. Who would do that?

Not me, reread what i said...

Anyway, CA may be twice the size of the UK, but it only has half the population.

Looks like they are starting to build wter desalination plants. Israel Desalination Shows California Not to Fear Drought

@Clyde, where was the comparison to the UK, UAE is United Arab Emirates.

And in the UK we normally don't have water shortages, and at the moment we have too much, in some places much too much. Gallery of floods 2014

Well desalination plants don't care where the electricity to power them comes from, so if natural gas is cheap enough, get 'em built.

Can't... Green Activist's against Nuclear, 'Fracking', and Pipelines to deliver.

'Political Realities'.

Ah, always comes down to the 'greenies', now i understand the problem.
We have similar issues in the UK, the green brigade who oppose every new development without offering a viable alternative. Wish many of them would just go live in a cave and let the rest of us get on.

Perhaps because those greens got some valid concerns.

Fracking is not exactly environment friendly, those pipelines tend to be build straight through wildlife areas and the idea that nuclear energy is so 'clean' is just plain nonsense. Yeah, not a lot of emissions, it just leaves you with very expensive radioactive waste. Not to mention the fact that nuclear power plants are not exactly safe. The amount of near disasters with nuclear power plants is staggering, usually the result of human incompetence or technological failure. Aside from that, those power plants tend to be run by private corporations who have a terrible track record when it comes to public and environment safety or abiding to the rules and regulations that are supposed to protect public and environmental safety. Now that is bad when it comes to traditional power plants, but its extra dangerous when the power plant in question can explode and turn a huge area into a uninhabitable radioactive wasteland for centuries and where the fall out endangers entire continents. Damn right the green brigades protest.

Besides, nuclear power is not the way forward. Its just a more efficient form of 'fossil' fuel (I know, it doesn't come from fossils). It not renewable and again, it produces some very serious forms of waste. If we want to go green, there are much better solutions. We can significantly reduce the amount of power we use. We can already build houses that are almost entirely energy neutral. Now say we start focusing our efforts on upgrading buildings to be more like that, we can reduce the amount of power that is required. Less power consumption means that things like wind mill parks, solar power and geo thermal plants become much more cost effective to take over the remaining energy needs. And over time, it becomes possible to make energy effectively free.

But when these greenies also object to wind turbines because they kill birds and confuse bats, wave and tidal because it disrupts marine life, solar because the panels spoil the natural beauty of wherever they're installed, hydroelectric because one needs to build dams that inhibit the flow of the river, etc etc, you get my point?

...

.. Clean, and CHEAP Natural Gas ....

There is no such thing as "Clean Gas". I was very perplexed when that bit of Newspeak began to appear in the industry propaganda and for a while I actually thought they'd come up with a new form of gas because otherwise why would they be claiming that Natural Gas is clean?

The fact that "clean gas" is an utter lie should be the canary in the coal mine so to speak of some of the other "facts" you've been fed.

Yeah, I know who you mean. I don't think those people are really greens though. I mean, if their solution boils down to doing nothing and just continuing with building more coal and gas plants then they are not green. Its a simple fact that anything we do has an impact on the environment. A real green recognizes that fact and seeks for a way to minimize that impact. And a real green would never be bothered by an otherwise environmental friendly energy generator because it doesn't suit his aesthetic convictions.

That said, I can see the reason why there are a lot of greens against building hydro electric dams. Building a damn does have this tendency to affect the environment in a significant way. Basically, it can disrupt the entire ecosystem that depends on the river. Obviously, it depends on where you build it and in which country, but hydro electric dams are not automatically a green solution.

Solar panels on every south-ish facing home roof struck me as a good idea, as it's free and otherwise unused space, shame the government stopped subsidies for them too.
My parents got theirs in the nick of time and are still getting the 21p/unit feed-in tariff.
This is getting more into the solutions aspect though.

Gas is clean in the sense that there is no fly ash, soot, sulphur dioxide, heavy metals, scrubber sludge and has less CO-2. Those who think that CO-2 is "Dirty" apparently never got over toilet training, or they defecate little wrapped candies.
