... Linux that easy to use for everyone...

So you've not noticed Google?

They are pretty much 100% Linux systems and scarily so good at what they do that there are no groups able to compete...

Have you a smart phone or are you too old for one? Or so indoctrinated you've gone niche with Microsoft or perhaps secondly fashionable with Apple?...

Unfortunately, at the moment that's your very limited/restricted choice...

Wow, how condescending of you! Getting to you am I? Check out your Linux thread & you'll see what Operating Systems I use. Restricted? By whom?
Edit:
BTW, shouldn't you be really keeping up to date? There won't be a Win 9!

Now there's the thing... We do really have rather a restricted choice that forms a sort of (from the user perspective) an unwanted oligarchy...

Now... What is your spin on why no Win9?...

No spin. Windows is Windows, what version it is does not matter.

what order are cats in? now national parks? or unimaginative dull and dumb numbers, like the authors, always in sequence? Oh, what about those points. Does every version have to have .7 fixes before it increments?

Its linux's own fault. They have so many flavors, One does not know what one should use. And really after all theese years you would think Linux would at least be a player in the field of OS. Well I can say they are on the field but no one wants to play with them. Why is that? When the big wheels at linux figure it out then they will have a winner. Untill that happens we have to listen to you preach:(

If I want to run a Linux program it should run on "Linux" without me having to compile my own version or wait for the Distro I'm using to get around to releasing their version. Whether the Distro I'm using is Debian based, Redhat based or Mandrake based should be immaterial.

I quite like Linux, but so much work has been put into developing a really sweet kernel that the developers have neglected the finer points of end user friendliness.

They are programmers, they are not developers! Without a marketing department to tell them how to make a UI and what needs work, they are lost and flail around in a forest going in circles.

Which is why all flavours of Linux together can't obtain 2% penetration of the desktop/laptop OS market. ;-)

Which is why they need to stop the flavor BS and distro crap and Go to one OS and upgrade as they need. But no, They continue to want to be geeky and eletist. And show their disdain for the unwashed. They bring it on them selves for having a piss poor market share.
At least apple makes it easy and simple. I like apples OS, to bad they charge more money for buying there stuff.

Exactly James and the biggest reason behind its failure on the popular PC market. ;-)

I had big expectations many years back when they said that they were going to cooperate on making that OS easier for your average user to use. Sadly that outlook lasted about 5 seconds.

Cheers.

297902 you're talking about the mobile phone and tablet market now which is what is generating the largest Linux attacks ever seen (they will overtake M$ soon enough in that arena). I'm talking about this segment, http://netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0&qpct=6 where most of the work is actually done. ;-)

Now the UEFI myth was debunked years ago by many (even by myself) so you can throw that argument out for starters. ;-)

I'll just let the real facts speak for themselves, not those stupid myths, so lets just stick to the facts.

When you talk of brand name PC's that is a different story in some cases as they are protecting their business models, but in general that's just FUD. ;-)

So true. If the brand name doesn't put the linux boot loader key in the machine ... but that isn't Microsoft's fault, that's the brand name's fault. http://www.howtogeek.com/175641/how-to-boot-and-install-linux-on-a-uefi-pc-with-secure-boot/
Of course if the linux distro refuses to sign it with a key .........

So...

We've had the near viral-seeded marketing campaign hyping up the 'manufactured' news and 'news leaks' of "It's not Win9... But behold Win10 instead"!

Also with that, there are seemingly a 1001 rumors as to why no Win9 and why the jump to a magical "10"...

All that after the wild confusions of:

Win8, Win8.1, Win8.1.1, Win8 Update, ...?

... and "Patch Tuesday" is now no more to be instead re-marketed as "Update Tuesday" which confusingly is to randomly add great changes and new features (and to add risk for adding new bugs) rather than just fix bugs...

Everyone keeping up?

Have I err-ed on any of the arcanery??

And NOW...

So one of my colleagues has taken a look at the Win10 preview, sold his soul and every key he types and every click he makes and all his bits to that great watching Microsoft eye in the cloud to monitor and note, all by your required extended EULA agreement:

Win10 in terms of what you see on the screen does look rather good for those still dreaming the ways of Win7.

One rather interesting note is that the start menu appears to include links into the Microsoft Cloud to download a cloud app to do whatever function... Is this where Microsoft finally gets to fulfill its IT dream of pay-per-click and of users only merely 'renting' access to cloud apps?... Even for the most mundane everyday tasks?...

And all this is to the backdrop of:

Happy 2nd birthday, Windows 8 and Surface: Anatomy of a disaster

Heart of Windows 8 lives on in Windows 10

... “For the first time, Windows has first-rate tablets in addition to desktops and notebooks,” said CEO Steve Ballmer. “All of these form factors will transform what you know and experience today into something quite new and quite wonderful.”

Surface RT, Microsoft’s first effort at an own-brand PC and tablet, was unveiled at the same event “It’s the ultimate expression of a Windows PC for us,” said Sinofsky. The device went on sale at midnight in Times Square, which Microsoft took over for the night. Ads were everywhere, enticing customers to “click in”.

They did not. Surface RT was a disaster, and the following year Microsoft wrote off $900m...

... Windows 8 has sold in large numbers, of course, but its reinvented Start screen has been sufficiently unpopular that Microsoft is restoring something more like the old Start menu in its successor, Windows 10.

Businesses buy PCs with odd descriptions like “Windows 7 Professional 64 pre-installed (available through downgrade rights from Windows 8 Pro 64)” as OEMs wrestle...

More Microsoft staffers shown the door in Round 3 of job cuts

Nadella creeps close to 18,000-layoff target

... some of the cuts have hit home. In the most recent round before Wednesday's cuts, Nadella broke up Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group and closed the company's Silicon Valley research lab...

... As distressing as it may be to see so many people at one company lose their jobs, however, the process hasn't been entirely painless for Microsoft, either. In its most recent earnings report, the software giant said it had already spent $1.14bn on restructuring costs. Expect more where that came from next quarter, once Redmond has issued a few thousand more severance packages.

Is Microsoft going to reinvent itself?

Good or bad for the users?...

"Where do you want to go next?" ? ;-)

IT is what we allow it to be...

Ooops...

Microsoft to unveil Windows 10 on 1/21/15

..."New operating system will run on the 'broadest types of devices ever'.

Various app stores merged into one platform, called the One Store.

Return of the Start Menu, which had been removed from Windows 8.

Users can create multiple desktops to keep things organised."

Oh dear! Really?
