Current Projects

1. This project has two parts rolled into one.

A) Replacement Bruno Server: This server will be a new, dedicated Upload server for the SETI at Home project. This server will also run backend functions that will benefit from being close to the result files, e.g. the validators.

B) Replacement Vader Server: This server will be a dedicated download server as well as dedicated to running various ancillary backend functions. Any excess capacity will be used to run post/pre NTPCKR/RFI functions (e.g. RFI studies, big array/image plotting with IDL, etc)

These two servers will have a huge impact on the project's ability to serve and collect data from the processing volunteers which we can all appreciate in this time of troubled server closet woes.

Here are the specs for our two new servers. The specs for both servers are identical.

QTY 1 SuperChassis 836BE26-R1k28B
QTY 1 Super Micro X9DR7-TF+ Motherboard
QTY 2 INTEL XEON E5-2660 8C/16T 2.2G 20M S2011
QTY 2 SuperMicro Passive Heat Sink SNK-P0048P
QTY 8 Kingston 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 ECC REG
QTY 12 Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB 7200R 64M SATA
QTY 1 LSI Logic 3Ware 9750-16i4e
QTY 1 3Ware RAID Card Memory Backup Battery LSI Logic LSIiBBU07
QTY 1 Raid Card Battery

While it's true that both of these servers meet the Lab provided specs, it's also true that they substantially surpass those specs in terms of horsepower and longevity. The hope here is that these servers preform better than expected, for longer than expected.

Quick notes about SETI Cash Donations:

1. We'll be remitting payment to SETI at Home on Monday (Jan 07, 2013) in the amount of $3485.00 USD. This is thanks in part to our generous donors as well as one very generous donor who contributed $2000 USD.

2. Some of the green star awards still aren't going through. I'll remind Matt to have a look at the system and find out what broke in the automated system this go around.

Hey Brad, you okay?

A couple days ago I tried to make a donation through GPUUG and had trouble logging in. I sent you a PM on here and haven't heard back.

I was able to get a reply from Brad as I was wondering myself... he's working out of town and offline. He should be back on Friday and will check in then, if not earlier.

I was wondering the same. I do hope he is well. There doesn't seem to be any activity on the GPUUG site either. Anyone heard from Slavac recently?

It's no surprise that GPUUG is quiet too, nothing happens without Slavac.

I find it disturbing too, and have noted same on our team forum.

I wish a reply from Slavac, no matter why.

It's OK, Slavac, why you cannot help any longer.
We just wish to know the reason.

Many of us here wish you well, and just want to hear from you.

Please reply, my friend. Please reply.

Someone got some recent donation data to the project. My Feb 16 donation now shows in my SETI account, and I see a few new green stars in the donation threads for those that donate general purpose money via PayPal on the GPUUG site.
