Don, take it easy.

Doing better now. Weather sunny, temps steady at around 100F during the day, cooling to low 70s at night. Sleeping better, more energy. Catching up on vital correspondence & junk email. Got some yardwork done this morning while it was still cool.

Here is a little game for you, arising from the previous Beets round (see Message 1390619 et seq.)

"These fascinating creatures, so similar to us, are spectacular proof of the Panspermia theory first proposed by Gxa'ana'asor."

I constructed the alien's name to match the caption and reinforce the related back story. Kudos for the first correct explanation of how it is derived.

Yeah, since the declarer won't say the name but can describe the location down to the last detail...come on! Of course, if only a couple of people play then maybe it is better that it die a silent death...what a shame! However the thread poster will have to make the determination, I believe?

There are enough hints there for any one to quickly find it. So if you want to win a thread, now is your chance.

Since no one else seems interested in posting ... would you prefer me to name it and then simply not post a next picture? Then it would be up to the OP to decide what to do. Or if he does nothing the thread will lock after a while.

Ok guys, I have asked the Mods to lock the Landscape thread. It was indeed fun while it lasted.

Ok guys, I have asked the Mods to lock the Landscape thread. It was indeed fun while it lasted.

I'd just have let it auto-lock.
What was the problem, lack of players? lack of players who whish to post a new piccy? I was under the impression that people had fun at hazarding guesses but were not so keen at coming up with a new challenge.
If that is the case I'd like to try a revival with a new rule: The first person to guess the location can post a new pic. If they want to pass they post so, then it's first come first served. Maybe needs rule reviewing if people want to post something but don't get a foot in.

So, do we have players? (Besides me?)

I'm willing to guess under those conditions. We should keep an extra rule in our back pocket that would deal with the same person winning too many times. But let's see if it becomes a problem before making the rule.

I think it may have something to do with many of the participants in the landscape game also being part of the count to number thread. With the copyright issues that brought about, it made them hesitant to link to photos. The mods never getting and answer from the Uni as to where the legal liability line is doesn't help. In a way I'm surprised this hasn't hit the kitchen gadget thread.

I think, since most of the kitchen gadget pics are from advertising or the product's website, the copyright issues are different from posting works by professional travel photographers and artisans.

Now, if I ever get around to scanning the slides and pics I took during my Navy career, some of those places/landscapes could be interesting.....

And we still dont have an answer from the legal department. And what made the mods crack down on copyright posts in the count to numbers was we had a copyright owner tell us that if we wanted to show his material we needed to pay.

We dont cruise the threads looking for copyrighted pictures, But if we get a red x or a copyright owner complains it will get hidden, When we get the word we will pass it on. But Im sure for the UC legal dept. its low priority.
I would ask posters not to post copyrighetd items, And cropping out the copyright is not the answer either. There is a lot of free stuff out there even if you have to dig for it.

I still think we fall under fair usage policy unless the copyright holder complains.
In academia it's usually enough to cite the author - maybe we can adopt a strategy of acknowleding the source (in case of mystery pics after the solution was found).
