I cant figure out why some folks just wont vote. Its your countrys future every time there is an election. There isn't a choice, "none of the bastards below ever."

In the UK, 60% turnouts in General elections are the norm, local council ones can be 25%, and the recent Police commissioners one as low as 15%. There are three views of opinion here.
2. It's their way of "protesting" against the establishment by withholding their vote. 3. Too many people are so self centred they just don't care about the country or other people, and they simply can't be bothered to vote.

Until such time as a country has mandatory voting at its elections a government in a "close call" election will be chosen by a minority of the electorate. Its simple arithmetic. This doesn't only apply to the USA, but the UK, France, Germany..... If you didn't vote then you have no right to object about the government that those that did vote elected. If you did vote, and "the other lot" got in, then you have a right to moan - about the lazy section of the electorate who didn't vote. In many of the "more mature" countries we are seeing a decrease in the level of voting at national level elections. There appears to be a general willingness to disengage with the process, then to complain about the result... Chris, it's not a quandary, at least in this country, it's becoming a bit of a battle between Obama's government and the almost half this country that voted against him. lets round off that 57% to 60% of eleigble voters that voted. Thts means 40% of the voters did not vote. So of those 60% who did vote the vote was 52.1% for Obama and 46.5% for Romney So how do you figure only 30% voted the way you say? I see it as 46%. Dont count the loosers who didnt bother to vote.
Old James |

Chris, it's not a quandary, at least in this country, it's becoming a bit of a battle between Obama's government and the almost half this country that voted against him. The voter turn out was approx 57.5% of eligible voters. I'll round that number off to 60%, which means that less than 30% voted as you claim. Less than a third of the population, not half. You do not have the support you think you do for your crazy express to the revolution. I do not fight fascists because I think I can win. I fight them because they are fascists. Why did the laws change so much, after independence? You have quoted the wrong paper. Clayton Cramer is the author who totaly discredited Michael Bellesiles faulty and mostly made up claims in his book Arming of America. He was stripped of his Bancroft prize and resigned from Emory Unniversity because is work was so flawed. Did you read what you linked to? I did. It most cleary states that the Goverment did not own the individuals fire arms. The author states yes the Gov, had stores of guns and powder in central locations. But they were used for arming those to poor to afford a weapon of there own. Also you were fined if you showed up at a militia drill with out your weaspon. How would that be possible if the state kept them all in storage. A claim that Bellesiles made in his book that probate records of the time barley showed guns being passed down to heirs. The sources he cites were either non existent or wrong by 60%. Im not the first to say this, But most things a person owns dont get listed in a will to be passed on. They are given to the person outright. Mothers give jewelry to the daughters and fathers give firearms to sons. Thats how it works for my family and im sure most familes. Thanks for the link though You have debunked your own argument. edited for spelling errors.
Old James |

You people are out of your minds. Thank you for saving me the trouble of posting the same sentiment. It's no wonder the right wing politicians are crazy... look at the people they have to answer to. Why did the laws change so much, after independence? Of course it is not a document of the constitution. It is a document explaining the gun laws before independence. |

Why did the laws change so much, after independence? Colonial Firearm Regulation - PDF In those times, All firearms were the property of the state. Colonial legislatures therefore strictly regulated the storage of firearms, with weapons kept in some central place, to be produced only in emergencies or on muster day, or loaned to individuals living in outlying areas. None of the Colonial laws in any way limited the possession of firearms by the white non-Catholic population. Yes you read that right Catholics, slaves, blacks and native tribes could not own guns. |

You people are out of your minds. No, ES. I am not 'out of my mind'. Fine, you don't want to listen to what I have to say. That's OK with me.... Only tyrants insist that others listen to their rants. At least you have the option to read or not read what I post. I posture and give you my take on my world, and if that don't suit ya........ Fine. Call me names then. I have been called far worse by many better than yourself. LOL, gurl. I can handle it. Whack away. "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein "With cats." kittyman

The survivors of the Nazi holocaust are no longer around. Not true, My ex next door neighbour, with ID tatooed on wrist, is still alive at 84, now lives with her daughter about 30 mile away. Have received Xmas card again this year. And my Uncle is still alive, he was one of the Canadian troops who entered Bergen-Belsen in April 1945. His units veterans association is still in touch with some of those survivors who ended up in Canada. |
