Time to re-created this thread since #XXIV reached its limit I set for the dial-up users. Enjoy.... :)

SETI/BOINC MILESTONE THREAD GUIDELINES:

    01. Please do not post any embedded images. If you must include an image in your post, for illustrative purposes, create a link to it. No thumbnails either, please. Stats images are allowed in signatures only.
    02. While quoting a post with a very long broken URL in it, fix it if you know BBCode, otherwise delete it or place spaces in it to break it up so it will wrap properly.
    03. While making a post, with a long URL, use a small link name. An option, if you have no control over the url, is to use http://tinyurl.com/ to create a new "tiny" link.
    04. Please do not use obscene language and/or threaten other participants. Moderators may delete such messages.

HINTS FOR DIALUP USERS:

You can update your preferences in your account. Edit your "Forum preferences":

    01. Set "Show images as links". This will also create a link for images in signatures, but will not hide avatars.
    02. Set "Hide avatar images". All you will see is the username and stats.
    03. Set "Hide signatures". Some signatures have useful information, links to related sites and such and witty quotes. If you set this, there will be no signatures displayed. ( See #1 in this section)

Greetings,

This milestone is kind of a negative one at best.

MILESTONE: 8 contiguous months of non-crunching of SETI@Home

My RAC is up to 34, now, allowing me to finally start my new thread.

Thank you all for your patience in coping with the extended length of the previous thread.

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Where ya been Siran? Glad to see you again :-)

Thanks Chris! :)

We ended up having to buy a 'new' house and it took all summer and fall to find one. We only had Internet access at the library so we could not crunch and in the process my RAC dropped to zippy. Cannot post without a certain amount of RAC. Anyway, we have our 'new' house and our i7s are crunching away again. :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Do you think that's still necessary, with the forums now automatically making pages out of long threads? I see 75 posts at a time, which I think is the default setting.

I have a mini- (or perhaps micro-) milestone: this is my 501st post in the fora.

Greetings David,

I believe you may be referring to the setting that sets the number of new posts per page. Something akin to how I see my e-mails in Gmail. There I see 50 e-mails per page with a link to the older e-mails.

Think about this: Could you imagine a forum thread with 10s or even 100s of thousands of posts in it? For someone new to the forum, reading it would be a nightmare. This thread is my 27th. If it was still the original thread I started back when BOINC was very young, it would now have over 8,000 posts since each of my threads has about 300 each, with exception of the first 2 (alpha and beta). I link to the older threads so people don't have to search for them if they want to read them.

By the way, you missed a milestone you passed a little over 2 months ago. You have been with SETI@Home for just over 13 years. Congrats! :)

I believe I shall continue to re-create this thread when it reaches 300 posts. It's just something I do here since I don't spend a lot of time in the fora here or anywhere else for that matter.

Thank you for your concern and have a Happy Holiday Season! :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

I can easily imagine a thread with over 8,000 posts, but no one would have to load all of them at once. For people like me who leave the default setting, we would see 75 at a time. People with slow internet connections can reduce that if they want. But, hey, it's your thread.

I did note my 13 years in the 13th anniversary thread (and even managed to do so on the actual day, which I have failed to do in the past).

Broke 10K RAC on primaboinca, that was a goal I wanted to do, so once all the work is done on all my machines, I'll be back to crunching here full bore again, with a total of 8 cores across 3 machines. LOL

I'd suggest to add reducing the amount of posts per page as the first hint for dialup users. That speeds up loading the page a lot without that half of it is missing. BTW, avatars are loaded from the browser's cache unless you have never been here before, so that does not speed up anything most of the time, specially not AFTER you have read the hints, than you probably have most of them.

Well reached over 30 Million, could be more and I keep on CRUNCHING

Last month I got only got Docking or Einsteins Gravity Search, on CPU.
And Binairy Pulsar Search (BRP4CUDA/OpenCL) on 2 NVidia and 2 AMD/ATI 5870GPUs

And since a few hours I gor a lot of SETI work. On all 3 hosts and a Laptop.

A efficient way of crunching, 3 hosts using ~1000 Watt/hour when looking at
the total troughput. > 170 Million credit and 162.000 RAC, for all projects.

And they're running 24/7, ofcoarse, since my electric bill is included in
the rent of this appartment.

In February, i've to do some serious renovating and have to quit for 10 days
or less. :-/

Just passed 27 million combined this morning. First time I noticed that I'm in the top 250 SETI machines, i7/950 @ 231 & i7/930 @ 331. Also noticed that I'm @ 180 in top SETI participants. Never seen entries that high in my 13 years, and don't know if this ole man's heart can stand it.

Just cleared 500M for SETI, not bad for CPU only systems. Hope to clear 50M for Einstein by years end.
