I have not had a star most years and do not care if it shows or not that i donate.
I do intend over the next few months to get my donation level to $1 a month.
But i think it is time to start thinking outside of the box I know some band members and a couple of bars that like doing fund raises and a keg does not really cost that much, or a dance, or garage sale or, maybe a Rafael and if bragging right's for the large donors gets more cheese I am for it.The point is group activities can be fun and can generate more cheese than an individual can afford to donate.Have fun and be creative.

Maybe implement some kind of donation rating system for the groups. So groups could have fundraisers to compete against each other.

Maybe some of those alternative thoughts could spawn another thread...'Fundraising ideas'.

For now, I should like to continue to entice those without a star to join my 84 cents a month fundraiser.

Come on folks. I like the response so far, but there are legions of you out there on this project that I KNOW can afford 84 cents a month to support this project.

Let's kick it up a notch, eh?

You need only a click on my star to follow the kitties.

Mark remember, showing a green Star is a choice. Just donating comp cycles is also a choice. Not tax deductable tho.

The Kittyman's heart is in the right place. Give if you want to/can. Show your star or don't.
Just like other choices we make.

Bernie: I just looked at the donation history - http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/donation_history.php

I think it is such a shame that only 0.28 percent of all volunteers have donated to help. Less than one percent...

Seems that if there are those that can afford these mega-crunchers, they could help us out a bit to strengthen the S@H manpower end financially. Doesn't have to be a big number, a small number by a big number of donors would be so fantastic.

Matt: Thanks for your pursuits. I can hear the kitties meowing!

BALDERDASH

I tried to use PayPal to entirely complete the goal of GPU users group. Repeatedly asked to review my purchases. I figured I needed to enter my user name and password, which is the same for both my registered projects, and it was wrong. After two or three times reviewing my purchase I decided they had not yet earned it.

Hint. If someone offers you money, take it. Just send me to PayPal when you tell me I can pay with PayPal.

Maybe you need to register first on the GPUUG site.
Since it is an independed organisation they are not connected to any BOINC project server so they will not know your username and password.
But I don't know for sure if registration is necessary.

The fundraiser was a great idea, I donated for the first time since I joined in 1999. I will do so yearly.
I would like to know how the response has been , how much was raised ?

Okay, I guess I should have looked a little before my last post. I found it.
Nice work.

Nice work.

Thanks for joining in.
If enough folks would do likewise, things would be a bit brighter for the project.
The percent who are involved with Seti that choose to give monetarily is so small it is embarrassing to me. I realize they all give their computer resources of course. And that is what the project is about.

This fundraiser was simply meant to drive home how little it takes to set aside a very small amount and donate that to the project as well.

My kitties can certainly afford the equivalent of two tins of Friskies a month......
And given all the other kitties around, that could add up to a very nice sum if more others would do likewise.

Thanks again.
Meow!

A very fine encouraging message. When people donate to Seti@home they need to be sure to give the e-mail associated with their account. I forgot that and used the account I use most for business transactions. Whoops, it was not the one associated with Seti@home. My Green Star will be delayed because of this and Uli is helping me with that. I thought about my willingness to donate much like you did Mark. I've invested all this money in graphics cards. A donation will help Seti at Home with getting the project's needs fulfilled. I'm thinking of improved handling of uploads and downloads and improved staffing.

With hundreds of thousands of active volunteers, there's good reason to believe a large proportion of us would contribute to help the project's center and staffing needs. Beginning now with this first donation, I promise to talk about Seti with my friends and raise its charitable profile with them. P.S. Here's the link that explains how effective Seti@home is as a scientific project. Overall about 90% of the funds go directly toward project expenses and very little to fund raising expenses. That's excellent and up there with the best.

Although it's somewhat off topic for this thread, BlueTooth76 (a.k.a. MaGNeT)'s idea may be very good. At current exchange rates, one Bitcoin is around 20 USD, and almost any currency can be exchanged.

I doubt it would be possible to get the University of California donation system to accept them, but maybe the GPUUG could investigate it as an additional method. http://www.weusecoins.com/merchant-tools.php lists some services which merchants can use to accept payment in Bitcoins, for instance.

Perhaps when SETI@home work delivery is insufficient for whatever reason, turning compute power to Bitcoin mining and donating the proceeds to S@h would be a good way of working toward the goals of this project.
