Hopefully, if they do, they'll get an ENGAGED Signal.

Who's the system administrator on the project?

Seems your always having crashes and problems. A lot of us out here could help solve configuration issues if there were a good source on your configurations with system details.

I run Einstein as well. They seemingly have a better group or configuration.

I worry SETI is just a part time job for some of your people. There are a lot of things that seem to go wrong every weekend, holiday, or three day period.Eric I do appreciate your dedication. To bad
SETI at home it is so underfunded and staffed lightly.

A conference to discuss SETI and technology as well as whether the analysis path pursued is still viable or do we need a shift in overall approach to maximize the utility of you SETI volunteer corps.. Given a rudimentary analysis of Earth's radio frequency history (we go from Broadband Noise pulse generation to Digital Microwave inside of a 100 years) you realize other civilizations might only use RF for communications for a very short window in time. Even if the signals are floating around out there time coincidence is very unlikely and probability of intercept very low low indeed. Then propagation distance means any intercepted signals would be so far back in time that we'd be unlikely and unable to communicate back within any reasonable period to establish a comm channel.

Perhaps looking at advanced communication methods like lasers, or even neutrino emissions might be promising.. Don't know the answer only that our RF search has som many "depends on" that it's probability is very very unlikely.

Hate to be a pesimist but....

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Will still crunch..

Funny, I recently resurrected my old May '99 account after I dumped SETI@home mid 2000's due to "Client Error","Client Error","Client Error",... every time I had completed work to report. I knew the problem wasn't on my end so after seven years the same problems persist? Go figure.

I assume this is also the case for SETI@Home Beta, so may I suggest you post this little announcement in that sub-forum too?

Thanks!

Thanks for the notice, Eric.
I have faith you shall get it sorted in the near future.

And don't worry, the kitties will leave the light on for ya.

There has been a little bit of progress overnight (my time).
The server status page looks as if it is being updated. But still no traffic flowing.

Right under Eric's name it says "Project Administrator" Take a grain of salt and call me in the morning.

I run Einstein as well. They seemingly have a better group or configuration.

They have $$$$$$$$$$, Seti@home doesn't.

I worry SETI is just a part time job for some of your people.

No need to worry, it is a part time job! Not enough $$ for anyone to be full time.

Not to mention the fact that Einstein has a fraction of the number of users/hosts that Seti does......

Who's the system administrator on the project?

Right under Eric's name it says "Project Administrator"

Which means he's responsible for the Seti@home project.

The System Administrator is whoever happens to be around at the time- they don't have the funds to staff such a postion.

This might be coincidentce, but if you recall, some OS had a lot of Technical Gliches back around Mid 2000's. Not saying they still don't, but if memory serves me correctly, some PC's weren't capable of Running The Then NEW OS's: In addition to the General Problems.
So personally, even though I have only been involved with BOING projects for a Short Time, I don't think it would be The Sole Fault of S.E.T.I..

Thanks for letting us know. Not the most welcome news, but I think we half expected it and you've given it your best shot. Have a great weekend, and let's hope it all looks easier on Monday morning.

Before you leave, it might be wise to check round the rest of the system and batten the hatches down securely. For example, I have a feeling the splitters didn't get a 'stop' message during the first scheduler outage, and carried on filling up storage: we had a lot more tasks 'ready to send' than the normal high water mark, when you brought Synergy up yesterday.

Looking at the other Project status page, which does seem to be up to date, there is 306,417 tasks ready to send, which doesn't sound too bad, If it is accurate of cause,

Claggy

Now the Server Status page is up to date, the MB splitters are shown as still running, and the Results ready to send is now up to 504,965

The splitters usually show green if they are ready to run, even if they are temporarily inhibited by RTS being above the high-water mark.

There will be a steady slow growth in RTS, as tasks are marked 'timed out' in the database and replacements are created. That doesn't matter at all, because the only thing created is the database entry - the workunit datafile is already on disk.

It would only worry me if we saw the numbers of "channels done" changing - because that would imply new data being written to disk, and the normal limits not being observed. So, recording the state of play for the first five tapes as at 10:10 UTC: (14, 10, 1, 6, 2) - if they change, it will be a warning sign.

That you can see that. All I see at the time of writing is a highly corrupt server status page. It only shows:

Oh wait a moment, I was going by the link that you gave in your post. However, Seti doesn't use server_status.php, but instead uses sah_status.html

I don't think that new work is split, it is still (14, 10, 1, 6, 2) 11:10 UTC, so no changes in last hour.

Astropulse science database marvin has been disabled for, at least, last hour?

Eric, I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say I know you will do your best to get things back up and that is good enough for me. My awaiting results aren't going anywhere and will be ready when you are. Thanks for the dedication and the effort.
