From the Mail website Why do you have to be so disresfectful with argentines? It´s the argentine government you have problems with, not the people. As an argentine I can assure you the media here have a lot more respect for Great Britain and their people. I have a few friends from England, and no matters what we think, if we talk about this, we always respect each other. A breath of fresh air ..... |

In the end the U.S. MUST maintain good relations with Argentina. There is too much coffee at stake!! The british might opt for tea instead, but that is simply not an option here. ======================================= I have been known to drink a good black currant tea in the morning not all of us drink coffee. |

Virtually a 100% turnout, and an almost 100% Yes vote, which was exactly what was expected by Britain and Argentina. So, we carry on as before with them still claiming the Malvinas. Nothing has really changed. Referendum |

Argentina’s Kirchner charters jet to avoid debt seizure Just goes to prove that no matter where one is, the ordinary citizen is either a piece of cannon fodder or a cash-cow. |

Argentina’s Kirchner charters jet to avoid debt seizure Despite a bitter war of words with London over the Falkland Islands, Kirchner's government is paying British air charter firm Chapman Freeborn $880,000 for the trip to Cuba, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Vietnam. |

It is worth again making the point, that the British people have no quarrel with the Argentinian people. It is a political issue between our two respective governments. As a serviceman, you do what you do, when your country calls you. That has always been universally respected everywhere in the world. Darwin Cemetary Reunion |

I see that Argentina is sabre rattling again. Falklands Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is a leader of a country, that has severe economic and political problems on the home front to deal with. She knows damn well that the only way she can cling to power, is to periodically throw up smoke screens such as this one, to avoid too much focus on her problems and to keep the natives happy. Her letter to the PM was published as an "advert" by two UK newspapers, the Independent and the Guardian. The Independent I can understand, the Grauniad is becoming markedly anti establishment in recent times, and must be short of a few bob in the ad dept. Perhaps Polly Toynbee is running out of lip gloss! Argentinian rant The day that the Falkland Islanders decide that they would rather be ruled by Buenos Aires than by the UK, then we will cede them to Argentina, and end our administration there. But that realistically is never going to happen. And you can bet when the Olympics go to Brazil in 2016, they will be using the world focus on South America, to jump up and down about this issue. Mind you 4 years is a long time sweetie, don't bank too much on you still being around. Yawn. |

And now the IMF has a go at Argentina. Argentina faces IMF penalties over failure to meet inflation deadline Sanctions such as exclusion from G20 could be imposed as country's inflation rate appears at odds with independent assessments |

The statement by the incoming coalition government quoted by me was meant to refer to the Budget deficit That is called "moving the goalposts". I commented on what you said, not what now say you meant. Now you're just being picky. I specifically referred to WWII. You didn't simply say "since WWII" you specifically referred to peacetime. If you only meant to say since WWII, then you should have left it at that. Did we get out of bed the wrong side today? I'm sending Sirius some liver pills for Christmas, sounds like I'd better send you some as well. Meh. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

That is a very astute observation WK, and one that really ought, if we are all honest, to give cause for reflection. |

The statement by the incoming coalition government quoted by me was meant to refer to the Budget deficit Also, UK troops in Afghanistan might take offense at your statement that the last election occurred during peacetime. Now you're just being picky. I specifically referred to WWII. Of course we have had other conflicts since then.

Our current government inherited the worst peacetime debt since WWII from the Labour party. Cameron become PM on 11th May 2010, the UK Fiscal Year 2009 ended on March 31st 2010, at the end of FY 2009 UK public debt as a percentage of GDP stood at 44.26, at the end of FY 2010 it stood at 52.08, and end of FY 2011 at 59.97% GDP. Looks like, if your statement was true, the coalition will be able to rob Labour of the record soon enough. However, it's not true, for no FY between 1917 and 1970 was UK debt less than 60% GDP. As there was more than one government between 1945 and 1970, using debt as a %age of GDP as the measure, all inherited worse peacetime debts than the coalition inherited from Labour. Also, UK troops in Afghanistan might take offense at your statement that the last election occurred during peacetime. Source. Alternatively, play this and substitute the word "Republican" with "Conservative". I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...
