Casualty has evolved from a soap-drama into a docu-soap, and is actually very good. We won't go into Thatcher, I know your views! Not sure about a strident female, certainly one that has strongly held views. The main difference is that you had an education, and have some brain cells between your ears. Unlike these pathetic young kids on the soaps today.

As a strident female myself I must be one of the gullible. I was so thrilled to be able to catch up with Eastenders after leaving the UK. I can't get BBC iPlayer here but people upload the soaps to youtube so I can watch them on the same day as in the UK.....

The only "good" bit about the soaps are the closing themes.
At least this Christmas I won't be afflicted by my sister-in-law's addiction

It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I can only discuss the UK soaps here I'm afraid but it would certainly be interesting to hear from other countries.

The three main ones in the UK at present are Coronation Street, Eastenders, and Emmerdale, there have been others in the past. In my opinion they have definitely lowered the tone in the UK. 25 or 50 years ago we had decent story lines and good acting. Not any more. All we get from all three are strident females, screeching at the tops of their voices, complaining about their relationships. That is not acting, that is just untalented people shouting, and the producers go along with it.

Gullible people watch these soaps and think it is a true to life example of how everyone else behaves, so they start to do it as well. Add in the intense competition between the soaps for the annual awards, and it just gets worse, year by year.
