PM sent in both English & German suggesting that he asks a question in the Linux Q&A. Not having returned any "sensible" results for a long time he has insufficient RAC to post in Number Crunching

This PC has been doing that for at least a couple of years now and that user has never replied to any of my PM's in all that time, so don't hold your breath waiting for a reply. ;-)

Cheers.

The users who do respond to a PM at all are very much in the minority!

Thank you for the PM. I apologize if the corrective measures are posted somewhere so maybe someone can point me in the right direction please?

This PC was refreshed from XP 32 bit, to Win 7 PRO 64 bit, to Win 8 PRO 64 bit, to Win 10 PRO 64 bit, and the only time I didn't re-format the hard drive was the upgrade to Win 10 PRO 64 bit.

I would really like to solve this problem and stop this PC from sending in garbage results. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Kruge99.

It looks like your computer is failing to start the workunit as there is no stderr log to show its starting. Can you please disable your anitvirus on the BOINC data folder? Also can you please inform us of the brand of the aniivirus for us to make a diagnosis?
The reason I am asking you to disable is to stop the antivirus sandboxing and/or quarantining the workunit's application file.

Hi, I'm using the built in Windows Defender for anti-virus. This is a test bench PC I use for testing RMA PC hardware so it only requires the most basic of anti-virus protection.

I have added the c:\program data\BOINC folder to the excluded list for Windows Defender.

I have also set "Suspend GPU" under activity which I presume will prevent the GPU from analyzing work units?

Best Regards,
Kruge99.

Message 1777095 - Posted: 8 Apr 2016, 8:28:40 UTC - in response to Message 1776984.

what I am seeing in stderr output on workunits is:
<core_client_version>7.6.22</core_client_version>

from this unit and all others are similar in result. This indicates the actual SETI app not initialising
This is what it should look like in the beginning if it did initialise:
setiathome_v8 8.00 DevC++/MinGW/g++ 4.8.1
libboinc: 7.7.0

Work Unit Info:
...............
WU true angle range is : 0.012118
Optimal function choices:
--------------------------------------------------------
name timing error
--------------------------------------------------------
v_BaseLineSmooth (no other)
v_avxGetPowerSpectrum 0.000068 0.00000
avx_ChirpData_b 0.002649 0.00000
v_avxTranspose4x16ntw 0.001150 0.00000
JS AVX_a folding 0.000788 0.00000

Note that the timing value is different on each computer. You can check if it does have this output by looking in the slots folder. You can check the slot number by going the task and then properties which will give you where the unit is located.
Also as a note one of your workunits did go through and validated: unit. this indicates that the solution did work

Most of his computers are doing OK, but one of them http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7179657 is doing rather badly:
In progress (500)
Validation pending (901)
Validation inconclusive (613)

PM on its way....

I've double checked the bios and nothing is overclocked as far as I can see... I've even reset the bios to factory defaults. I've set the BOINC client not to use the GPU under the Activity tab.
