Chris The Coal Board spent £250 million opening a pit at Asfordby, taking years to build shafs, etc. It was just coming on stream when the Coal Board started to shutdown the deep mines, as the reserves were costly to extract compared to imported coal and strip mining. The Asfordby mine, outside Melton, was to access 15 foot thick seams right across the Vale of Belvoir, with reserves sufficient to 100 years mining. Add other known, but unexploited, reserves, I stick to the original assertion we have several hundreds of years of reserves when using at @70 million tonnes per annum. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Agreed Chris. That is why the subterranean gasification of coal reserves, as a project, could be positive. It seems to be capable of methane gasification of the coal, leaving all the nasty bits in the seam and extracted at 10% of the manual mining method. However the long term savior will be when Tokamak is successful (hot fusion electricity) It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Might not be an exact fit here but didn't want to start new thread. I'm sure many of us already knew this, 'Useless, useless, useless' |

That's quite a compliment, there are a few stronger words that might be used in other company about said male.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Well actually and probably unfortunately nowhere in the article does it say Tony Blair is useless; In fact one comment is: Palestinian officials say Tony Blair shouldn't take it personally, Meaning to me that they actually DO NOT want to call him usless!! In fact: They say his job, and the body he represents, are "useless, useless, useless". Somewhat different from calling Tony Blair useless. |

"Always the statement of the Quartet really means nothing because it was always full of what they call constructive ambiguity that really took us to nowhere," said Mr Shtayyeh, who had just ended a meeting with Mr Blair. "You need a mediator who is ready to engage and who is ready to say to the party who is destroying the peace process 'You are responsible for it'," he said." Think this statement says something along the likes of "useless". |

But that wasn't the title of the story! That wasn't what was suggested by the headline, sorry it's just sensational reporting! Why not say what is meant, why not because what you have highlighted doesn't make a headline. |

Well actually and probably unfortunately nowhere in the article does it say Tony Blair is useless; In fact one comment is: Heads of organisation build their reputation on performance of the organisation. That is how we judge Company bosses, Prime Ministers and Presidents. Herbert Hoover has been judged the USA's worst President because he was the boss during the wall street crash. |

Another one from the Office of National Statistics and the census. Britons living longer than previously thought So we really are in the mire, add another six years of pensions payments and health care for everybody to the budget. |

And that's the problem. Too many go to the headline, read the story & get annoyed that both the story & headline don't gel & then forget what they've read, thereby missing the points raised. Just like Internet forums! |

Sigh..... You know, I almost wish the world would end tomorrow :-( It is getting increasingly difficult not to despair at times. Snap, I get awfully confued at times, especially at the moment with the governments attempts to complicate the state pensions. edit] did I say complicate, sorry I meant to say simplify. Workers 'could get £62,000 lump sum' in exchange for state pension benefits Better-off workers could receive lump sums of as much as £62,000 from the Government to buy out their entitlement to the top-up state pension, a senior actuary has said. Anger grows over 'second-class' state pension Those already retired will miss flat-rate pension. |

. . Wow ! Sounds like you folks in the U.K. are having the same political B.S. as we have over here...across the pond. Politicians over here are largely made up of Attorneys and "Law School" grads; some of whom have been disbarred for mal-practice. One of the first things "they" learn is, Lieing is OK. They have no honor. Members of our Congress have given themselves so many special privilages that they no longer have a need to live as we "commoners". They live by their own rules and screw the rest of the citizenry. Outrages !! Sooner or later, the population will become outraged enough to "clean house". It could be a violent result. One other note: Labor Unions here have just about destroyed our nation. Especially the Civil Service and the Teachers Unions. People have begun to shut down the power of many Unions with "Right To Work" laws and the defeat of "Collective Bargaining". Needless to say, "Osama" Obama is an "Obomination". . . . |

With 23 million unemployed throughout Europe with unelected "Snooty's" at the top feasting off our table, the answer had better come quick or civil unrest will be a daily diet on the TV & our streets |

No wonder the country's in a mess! Any of us try this & we're sacked! Drunken antics at work A move in the right direction "Custard Creams" for the government & "Rich Tea" for the rest of us Up 10.5% in 12 months - looking good for 2015 then... |

Would Labour have done any better? No ........ Ah the "classic" answer when no coherent comment on one's lips - refer to the other political parties. What's the matter Taffy? Hit home did it? Is that the reason why "you're on the inside" - Free booze & bisciuts? & as for your link, did you read it? "Getting people into good jobs is absolutely vital, not just for them, but for all of us." - Really Del-boy? Just where are those "good jobs"? In an earlier statement & televised via Letterman, you stated that 1 million new jobs had been created - you forgot to mention that 87% of those were part time jobs of 10 hours or less - so another good "deal" for Britain then del-boy....... |

No verified job search, or no community service hours card no check. and in any normal country there is more work than people albeit a lot of the work maybe no one can afford to pay for so relief gets payed work gets done and bum finds job that isn't so much work. In New York state they had this problem so a note was sent out that a medical exam would be held to evaluate disability cases 2/3 of the people did not show problem solved. |
