Operational policing is a specialist job which requires training. Is it right that someone who is a political appointment and has not had that experience should be able to hire and fire a Chief Constable? How long will it be before a CC argues against budget cuts and is got rid of? Sixty per cent of the public don’t want party politics to be brought into policing, and I agree.

Just think though of all those wondrous H&S policies the politically appointed
person then can introduce into the force. A Police man will require a certificate
to run, just in case he has to run after a baddy. Working at heights certification
in case he has to climb over a fence or chase a baddy across the roof of a
building. Ear defenders in case he's parked up along the motor way for more than
half an hour. Statuary meal brakes, half way through arresting a criminal all
have to stop and take a 20 minutes break. All police dogs to have their teeth
removed in case they bite someone. Must be loads of H&S regulations that
the new politically correct appointee can introduce just to make the job safer
and more congenial to all.

Lets not forget the latest H&S craze, Managing Staff Fatigue. It is fairly widely
known that if the UK was ever to get involved in another world war, 90% of
H&S at work gets revoked. Which tells one something, most of H&S contributes to
industrial inefficiency...but then we've always known that from the very start.

Ah, but have you noticed that the MSF is only used for the tired overworked office staff?

The H&SE has contacted the pen & pencil manufacturers to see if there is any way to have their weight reduced as many workers are suffering with leaden wrists.

They've been moaning that their computers should be used with all mail sent electronically & that all offices should be paperless!

Now where have I heard that before?

Sorry Nick, I'm going to have to call you in on that one. The HSE do a very necessary job. I haven't got the figures to hand, but every year there are far too many industrial accidents in factories and on building sites. We should not be complacent about that, and I have had some HSE experience over my career.

A lot of H&S over the years was very valuable and needed especially with regards
to building site, mining and the use of industrial machinery. COSHH also was
very valuable too, bought to the attention of industry just how dangerous some
of the chemicals in use were. But later, in the 90's risk assessment came along
and it gave the industry reasons to find risk, in many areas of the work place,
when really there was none.

Well, it beats me!!...just can't see what all the fuss is about here.

Well then toff, when was the last time you travelled on a First Great Western
High Speed Train? Did you not notice that the standard class travel coaches
are already maxed out with so much seating that they constitute "Cattle class"
in their own right, more so than back in the days of the old 3rd class. Clearly
you have not noticed because if you have travelled on these trains then you've
more than likely travelled 1st class...."pillock".
If the train companies were to adopt another standard of travel it wont occur
whilst their running with old stock trains...to expensive to modify. This idea
will be for the new stock HS1's etc where they have the option to run extra
coaching stock which could include this other class of travel.

Quite obvious from the photo in that article that an extra seat/row could be added. The passengers were not sholder to sholder.
And they could strengthen the "luggage racks" and get some passengers up there.

Plenty of room to modify for, or build new, 3rd Class. LOL ;-)
