Hi friends, I have a problem with my seti@home client ... For some days now, BIONC doesn't fetch an more CPU work packets - or to be precise, it requests the but doesn't get any. The communication seems to be OK, because I constantly get fed with cuda_fermi work. Is there a shortage in CPU workunits ? Greetings Seneca 0=0 |

there is a shortage of work, Period. We are in a Shortie storm. A shortie storm occurs when the servers start splitting short(VHAR) WU's, exclusively. GPU users run through these so quickly that the feeder cant keep up with the load. then the Upload/download server gets jammed for the massive WU turn around. As soon as we get some regular or VLAR WU's we should see a break and normal downloading will resume. until that time we all get to watch our cache dwindle. I've got other projects to run in these lean times. I keep my PC's busy and when the storm ends I'll jump back into S@H crunching ![]() In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. OK - that's an explanation - thanks. Maybe such condition is worth a news entry ? My PC won't get idle, too - it runs Einstein work instead, and Rosetta as 3rd choice. Currently Einstein steals away even GPU capacity with "high priority" workunits ... maybe that helps to return SETI to normal behaviour. Greetings Frank |

We go through "shorty storms" every so often that it isn't worth making a new entry. If you have workunits that are running in High Priority, that means they are in danger of missing a deadline and is likely the reason why BOINC won't send any more tasks to your machine (why download more if there's danger of missing deadlines on existing work?). Your cache settings can have an affect on your work fetch. It is recommended that you keep a low cache setting to avoid BOINC thinking that you are running into deadline trouble frequently. |

We go through "shorty storms" every so often that it isn't worth making a new entry. (...) OK - then I just havn't noticed them much before, or they seldom cause me trouble. |
