Come-on Sirius, Clarkie is only trying to boost his pension pot. On retirement, sell the London home, pocket the cash and whey-hay...LOADS-A-MONEEEEEEY....at the expense of the tax payers. Could be a reason why the Government have not come down heavy on the BBC over this "Jimmie" business. To afraid that the BBC might start digging the dirt over still to be disclosed fiddlings of government expenses by our M.P's. If the BBC is found to have suppressed the "Jimmie" business just what else have they kept suppressed over the years and over what? Why? you thread owner? "On 12 May 2009, The Daily Telegraph reported that Clarke had "flipped" his council tax. He had told the Parliamentary authorities that his main home was in his Rushcliffe constituency, enabling him to claim a second homes allowance on his London home and leaving the taxpayer to foot the bill for the council tax due on that property. However, he told Rushcliffe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire that he spent so little time at his constituency address that his wife Gillian should qualify for a 25% council-tax (single person's) discount, saving the former chancellor around £650 per year. Land registry records showed that Clarke did not have a mortgage on his home in Nottinghamshire, where he has lived since 1987. He instead held a mortgage on his London house, which he had most recently charged to the taxpayer at £480 per month" Yep, nothing new here, so let's move on. Old Fogey who should be pensioned off VETERAN Tory Ken Clarke has admitted he doesn’t know what his new Government job is. Ken, 72, was sacked as Justice Secretary two months ago and appointed Minister without Portfolio. But he described the role — for which taxpayers pay him £98,740 a year — as “particularly mysterious and bafflingâ€. Don't lets all be naive here, Cameron is far too clever a politician, you don't get to be PM otherwise. When it became clear that Clarke was no longer wanted in a front line role, he had to go. But it was borne in mind how many years he had been around holding various senior Government posts. It was also clear he wasn't going to go quietly. Therefore it would not have made any sense to simply sack him and say bye bye. Clarke could be a very dangerous future enemy if not handled carefully, and everyone knew that. That is why he was given the sinecure position of Minister without Portfolio which guarantees him a continuing seat in the cabinet, judged enough to placate him. All that these recent comments are meaning is that Clarke has accepted his position with bad grace. OK folks, nothing to see here, please move on .... |

Bought one the other day John, admittedly for the crossword, jut to see if I could till have a bash at it! The Mail is really dire these days, and quite anti establishment. Can't be Sir Peter Morrison for although sited already as a pedo' he's now dead. This current one is still living and everyone one in parliament most probably by now will know who he is. Shame the BBC don't do crosswords! Newsnight claims, but BBC refuses to name Didn't like the Saville affair BBC & now trying to CYA? "The terms of reference were an important restriction. It's also fair to say at that time, and we're going back to the mid- to late 1990s here, at that time the idea that senior public figures; politicians; celebrities could be involved in child abuse was seen as a bit far-fetched," he told Newsnight/the Bureau of Investigative Journalism." Hmmn, no "redtop tabloids" here, but a world renown online "redtop" |

The Mail is really dire these days, and quite anti establishment. With old fogeys like this still in power, it's no wonder they are..... Old Fogey who should be pensioned off Another Fly-Tipping debacle At least on this one there is an honest gentleman amongst a den of muppets! "Tony Perks from the district council said the letter was perhaps "overly aggressive" and that they "don't like upsetting residents". He said: "I'm certainly disappointed in what we've done." Well done Tony (I bet you get some right ribbing over your name). |

Do remember that it is the Mails avowed aim to bring down this government, and in particular mount regular personal attacks against Cameron. Always take what they say with a large dose of scepticism. They may publicise scandals, but it is mainly for their circulations benefit not the general publics. I would rather listen to the independent or the Torygraph. |

Does it matter what PM as regardless, if proven, it will be a direct link to No 10! Oh dear, not still serving are they Butch? |

I find this year to be something out of the ordinary. I suspect Sirius would rather drop the "Bulldog" and just be left with the "Spirit" for now....bottoms-up ol' boy. I find this year to be something out of the ordinary. I can agree wholeheartedly with you there I think. Unsettling times to say the very least. Trying to stand back and take a helicopter view of it all, there are a number of factors to it. A mid term UK government, USA presidential elections, an unusual amount of natural disasters, global and EU recession, general dissatisfaction with the current world order etc. Plus of course the media hyping it all up to make a living. But yes, the UK has had a bit of a bashing in 2012 on many fronts, and it's not over yet. But it is at times like these that the famous British bulldog spirit comes to the fore. People grit their teeth and carry on, making the best of it. |

Agree. However, even though I have lampooned/castigated/insulted those at the top, I find this year to be something out of the ordinary. Too much is happening too fast - leaks, rumours, allegations - is there a hidden hand behind all this? For example there is BSkyB - is it possible that the Murdochs are behind some of this due to the treatment they've received? Probably unlikely, but remember my favourite quote: - "Truth is stranger than fiction". |

"Technology as we have today was not available to us back then". That is a fair and reasonable comment to make, given the circumstances. But these are very early times in all of this, and things are changing radically day by day. Police are expected to make more arrests in the coming days after releasing one-time pop singer Gary Glitter on bail on Sunday. I think it is far too soon yet to make any proper judgements, lets hold fire abd see what transpires. It is a very bad business all round, and more and more people are being drawn into it. Max Clifford the famous PR consultant, has already said that he has been contacted by scores of DJ's and pop stars around at the time, scared out of their wits that they might be implicated, even though they were totally innocent. The long term fall out from all this could be very far reaching. A total lose/lose situation for everyone. |

A word called "Fraternisation" springs to mind here. If somebody is under investigation, that fact should be transmitted to all police forces which will prevent just that from happening. Oh dear, it looks like many officials may be lurking on the forum! Yard chief admits police forces failed to link information "Police forces across Britain failed to link separate allegations of abuse against Jimmy Savile while he was alive, Britain's most senior policeman admitted yesterday. Four forces were contacted by seven potential victims, but none was able to build a case strong enough to put before a court. Scotland Yard commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said detectives would have established 'a pattern of behaviour' had they known about the various investigations" Don't worry Commissioner, here's a "get out of jail" card for you to use: - "Technology as we have today was not available to us back then". |

Well at least the BBC had one decent governer..... ....and he does raise a very vaild point: - BBC's Children in Need had ban "I base this on [BBC director general] George Entwistle reporting on the conversation with [BBC director of news] Helen Boaden who told him that Newsnight were conducting an investigation. He didn't ask the question 'why?' I find that extraordinary. It wouldn't have happened in my day because the guy would have been at a governors' meeting and he would have been asked by people like me 'why?'" |

Barbeque time! Lord Patten questions BBC too secretive Former Chief had alerts Caught on camera "He said that the force had no information about officers attending Savile's Friday Morning Club but that they were free to do what they wished when off duty." What happened to that old chesnut "A policeman is never off duty?" A word called "Fraternisation" springs to mind here. If somebody is under investigation, that fact should be transmitted to all police forces which will prevent just that from happening. It'll never happen though because each force will behave in a "territorial" manner! Definitely time to go! |
