It is accepted custom and practice on the Seti boards, that if posters wish to display a national flag on their avatar, then is is either their country of birth, or if they prefer, the country where they have spent the majority of their life living in.

The Lady in question is indeed a dear friend of mine, and had I thought for one moment, that she would be unable to give a robust response, I would have replied myself. I am gratified to note that my initial view of the situation has been proved correct.

I would say that the answer is yes. Billions of people all over the world watch and listen to the BBC via its world service broadcasts, and it plays a vital part in reporting current affairs. Like all cosy institutions they got complacent, and that lack of attention has bitten them big time. I think that the BBC is too important to be allowed to be dismantled or broken up, and I think that it will be re-built from the top down, it has to be.

Parliament and the public will accept nothing less.

Nice report, caught the last 5 minutes of the debate on the BBC.

Some very interesting points were raised. The question now is: - Will they be looked at & will any reforms that will be necessary, be implemented?

I've just watched on Parliament TV the Urgent Question tabled by Labour to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, regarding the current position of the BBC. Maria Miller spoke well but could not defend the payoff that the outgoing DG got. Harriet Harman, Deputy Labour Leader, also gave a spirited response and welcomed the statement.

Both sides of the House agree that it was right that Entwistle should have gone, and all agree that it is a matter for him whether to accept the full amount awarded or not. There was also broad agreement that the BBC is a respected worldwide institution, and that it should be given a period of stability to sort out its problems, and regain the public's trust.

looks dead on his feet as head of a Trust without portfolio. Is the BBC a
serious broadcasting organisation or just a fee-sucking licensed quango?
The only way to sort this organisation/quango out is to fold it up and rebuild

Schofield was well out of order that is pretty much universally agreed. I agree with all that you say, but not the BBC that has to go, its the climate within it and the people that adhere to it, that has to. The BBC as an entity should remain, but I think we can be sure that it will have to change radically from here on in.

I didn't foresee all this coming their way, and it does seem that they deserve it, but it's still a lose/lose situation, which I hopw something can be salvaged from.
