So, just what did God do before creating the universe?
Was he just floating in nothingness?
Are we the creation of a bored supreme being?

Before everything began, there was nothing. Not even time and space.
What was God up to in the before time?

Wouldn't an eternity of solitude in nothingness drive any intelligent mind insane?
Are we the product of madness?

Robert,
You asked several questions there. Do you want real answers Robert? I will give you real scientific answers if you want them.

Are you prepared to learn what really happened? The way you worded your questions, it sounds like you just want another thread to have a laugh at the concept of God.

Ok Robert,
You sound sincere. But it comes with 1 condition - Your will have to open your mind and learn. I will answer any questions you have, but you have to try to learn and understand what i tell you. This is NOT a discussion. Its a questions and answers session! I will help you if you want help understanding. And i will explain things in a scientific way.

So, just what did God do before creating the universe?

Get this Robert, and try to understand it. Its important!

The Bible is NOT a history of the universe. Nor is the bible a history of stamp collecting, shopping, computers, knitting, cooking, or anything else like that.

So what is the bible?

Answer - The bible is a history of Humanity. That means that it only deals with what happened to human beings in the last 6,000 years. Robert the bible is NOT a history of the universe, no more than its a history of knitting. The people that wrote the bible never intended it to be a complete encyclopedia of the history of the universe. It only deals with Human beings, and only for the last 6,000 years.

Before everything began, there was nothing. Not even time and space.
What was God up to in the before time?

Wrong Robert, wrong!
As we know today, the universe has been around for a very long time. But the authors of the bible say almost nothing about what happened before human beings were created by them through genetic engineering 6,000 years ago.

So what actually happened before human beings arrived 6,000 years ago?

Answer - All the things that science is finding out today. All the scientific knowledge we have today is a history of what happened before the bible starts.

A typical theory atheists like to throw around to insult believers in God, is the scientific fact that we know that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. This is scientific fact. The dinosaurs really did live millions of years ago. There are no dinosaurs in the bible because the bible is not a history of dinosaurs!

So just for starters we can put 2 and 2 together and say that intelligent beings have been around here on this planet for millions of years. They were doing exactly the same thing as is stated in the book of Genesis. Intelligent beings were here millions of years ago genetically engineering dinosaurs. So we can say with reasonable certainty that there has been intelligent beings using this planet for millions of years, on and off.

All the geological science we have today is a history of what happened before the Genesis event described in the bible.

Robert how does that sound? Any more questions.

John.

Here is the absolute truth at least in Seti ground:

1 billion years ago bacterias came alive
170 million years ago dinosaurs ruled
10 000 years ago humans figured out Sun god thing
5 000 years ago religious cults invented
1 000 years ago 3 major cults have gone extreme that these 3 cults have caused most horrible crimes in the last 1000 years.
+150 years into future no religion will bother the human civilization.

For example Buddhism is kind of new religion in central asia just over 3 centuries old in this region. But in 8th century at its birth place of northern India that the birth place nation has fallen into big wars and social instabilities so the native people kicked out Buddhism after practicing it for 1000 years. For tibetans it is another weird story too that maybe over 1000 years of practice they have no right in their land and their land turned into nuclear waste dumping ground. Which proves the oldest religious cult is not that useful stuff like all other religions.

John, my question wasn't about the bible.
I'm asking about pre-creation. Before the universe burst into being, an event described by some as the will of God, what was this entity doing?
If God created the heaven and the Earth, if God said "Let there be light" then the implication is that there was nothing before.

What was God doing before creation?

More seriously, regardless of whether you are talking God, god, gods, anthropomorphisms, or Science: Good question.

In the world of Science, I favour the two different ideas of:

a cosmic oscillation through the "Big Bang", possibly multiple times;

and that of recursive dimensions being created as enough matter breaks through black holes into new dimensions...

Robert,
Yes, i understand why your confused.

Just for starters, anyone who describes the creation of the universe as an act of God does NOT have the answer! Robert that especially applies if its an astronomer or a physicist telling you that in a TV program!! Astronomers and physicists are NOT experts in biblical events. Nor are they experts in understanding the meaning of stuff in the bible. The vast majority of them reject the bible. And Robert, the "creation event" comes from the bible! Thats the origin of the story.

Robert, there was no big bang. The world of science will find this out in the next few years. So the whole universe did not just bang into existence out of nothing. The truth is, the universe is infinite, endless and has always been here. So there was no "before" Robert. Its always been here. In time, scientists will find out that we live in a steady state universe that has always been here.

When God said "let there be light", its a quote from the Bible. So Robert, your question is about the Bible! And the statement "Let there be light", which is from the bible, is a metaphor for the intelligent beings that were here thousands of years ago testing the electromagnetic radiation, the light, to see if this planet was suitable for the genetic experiments they were about to start doing.

Buddhism began around 600 BC, 1400 years earlier than what you've claimed.

Well do the math indians kicked out buddhism after 1300 years of practice and tibetans began to practice that trashed religion in 8th or 9th century I guess. Maybe it is time for tibetans to trash the buddhism too to fight for their freedom and clean their land from nuke waste.

In central asia buddhism has caused numerious troubles too. I mean any religion is trouble.

The irony is the nuke waste first invented or created in america but Dalai Lama keeps visiting to america like a pilgrimage and even got some highest honored medal from american president just few years ago kind of overly ironic history around nuke waste.

Buddhism is not a cult, but nice try. Also: if you are going to run your mouth (or type badly on the internet) about a religion that someone else believes in try doing so with proper English and grammar and punctuation.

Oh, and have a nice day :D

If you've understood my writings then it is quite enough in this forum. Remember this forum is not English Spelling Bee + Grammer Bee forum so wake up!

ps. Learn from indians or hindus that why they trashed buddhism in 8th century!! the birth place ground.

Mongolia is still a country? lol.

By the way, according to Wiki:
According to the National Census 2010, among Mongolians aged 15 and above, 53% were Buddhists, and 39% were Atheists:
Granted, that is 2010 information, but you can read up on your own country's information by following this link.

And you're just an uneducated Mongol that doesn't even know that his country's predominant religion is Buddhism. Ponder Buddhism being alive and well in your country, as I can think of no greater torment for you :D
