What was god doing before the creation? Laying down the groundwork for Maths, so that once the creation was finished, the "many" can be bamboozled by the "few". Yep, definitely bamboozling. |

Anyone who believes in God knows that it has a wonderful since of humour. My question is: “What’s to argue about?†|

What did God do before creation? We will never find out, in this lifetime. |

He covered the chink up again when I wasn't looking! Of course the original equation solve for x, 10x - x = 9, has an answer of x=1, I did that in my head in 3 seconds. I didn't answer as I thought you were being facetious. As to the second bit, I'm trying to figure out why APPARENTLY 0.99999.... =1 when it shouldn't do. I can only guess that it flouts some mathematical rule about dealing with infinity numbers. I'm trying to recall whether you could ever catch that bus by travelling 1/2 way towards it all the time, in theory you never would, it may be something similar. 0.999999... = 1 does not flout any rule in math that I (or, it seems, Sarge, a math teacher and wikipedia) know about. There was no facetiousness on my part, if you had provided a value for x my next question would have been to ask you to use 0.999999... instead of x on the left hand side and see if the result was different. Similar equations (10x - x = 3) can be used show that 1/3 = 0.333333... and (10x - x = 1) 1/9 = 0.111111... The wikipedia page provides a number of other mathematical proofs for the equality of 0.999999... and 1. Your bus example demonstrates a difference between the physical world and the world of math, in math recurring division can carry on to infinity, in the physical world, there is a minimum length (Planck length). I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Indeed, I posted about it a few weeks/months ago. Similarly, try converting x = 0.121212... to a fraction. 100x = 12.1212... . So, 99x=12. x = 12 / 99 - 4 /33. |

What did God do before creation? Lynn, I wouldn't bet on it! I have an "old book" that completely documents exactly what God was doing before creation. And during creation! Never say never! You never know what evidence will turn up at a future date! John. |

What did God do before creation? really care to share the title? Please dont say the Bible. That doesnt cover anything about GOd prior to creating existance In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

What did God do before creation? skildude, Your not the cleverest, are you? You been hanging around here for a long time now. And you have read many of my messages. Then i don't need to repeat myself. John. |

Having read Genesis, and played their Abacab album, you certainly do need to explain. I don't recall reading anything about what God was doing in his scheming ways before the Darkness at the beginning. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

So in the end we may now have the basic rules as follows: 0, 1, 2, 3 ... can be written as 0.0000, 1.0000, 2.0000, 3.0000 and so on. Meaning that integer numbers are approximations of their respective non-integer or fractional counterparts. Some fractional numbers like 1/4 (0.25 or 0.2500000) are finite. Others (like 1/7 or 0,14285714285714285714285714285714) are infinite but repetitive. In the third instance (like pi, or 3,1415926535897932384626433832795, you have not only an infinite number, but also a non-repetitive number). Exact numbers can be obtained from inexact numbers by means of approximation (meaning truncation or round-offs). In order to know how approximate or close we can get, we have to deduce or derive the least possible number. For this, only the numbers themselves, not their possible negative values may be significant. Therefore we end up with 0.00000001 (where the 0's after 0. goes on forever before the final 1). But not the number 0 (or 0.00000), by the way, because this number means nothing or of no value at all. |

Having read Genesis, and played their Abacab album, you certainly do need to explain. skildude, Its ok if you don't understand. Of all the people in human history, you skilldude were born into an age with the internet. You had access to more information that any other generation in human history. So you had plenty of time to check if human evolution theory was correct. You choose to be lazy and not bother to check. We are close to judgement day, so you can ask God yourself. And he will answer you, in person, face to face. You will be given every opportunity to plead your case. When you meet your creator, you can explain to God that you believe that you evolved from a monkey. And God might just grant you your wish, and resurrect you in the body of a monkey. That way, God will have granted you your one wish......to be a monkey along with all the other atheists. Don't worry, there will be lots of other atheists along with you and they will be granted their wish also. But monkey's don't have a voice box, so it will be terribly confusing not to be able to talk to any of the other atheist monkeys. Genetic engineering is really great. Its just strings of code, DNA code, that's all. You can do some of the most amazing things. You can put a human mind inside the body of pretty much any creature. Even a monkey. If you really believe you evolved from a monkey, be careful, you might just get what you wish for! John. |

Having read Genesis, and played their Abacab album, you certainly do need to explain. That is a flame. And maybe he just asked nicely. I've been more blunt: I do not believe you. If God exists, maybe I am not allowed to question Him/Her/It, but nothing has ever prevented me from doubting a fellow human. There are no sacred writs indicating I should believe you nor anyone else. |

Did we say farewell to the inch and now use cm instead? Still, 1/2.54=0,3937007874015748031496062992126 (endless fractional number - last digit rounded off). 0,3937007874015748031496062992126*127=50 If truncating or rounding off this number a little, you get 0.3937*127=49.9999. Also, (1.00001 + 0.99999) / 2 = 1 (or 1.00000). |

There's some very good asides here, especially so for 'absolute' or 'non-absolute' numbers. (Meanwhile, Engineers have worked with tolerances for a long while... ;-) Note also Hilbert's countable infinities.) And then... There is the Johnny Guinness 'Long Yarn'. Is this just all an Irish scam and contest winner? Is this the making of a book? Or is this real? All in the name of God/gods? All just an Anthropomorphism? Or all lost in the dark mists of Guinness? ;-) Keep searchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Genetic engineering is really great. Its just strings of code, DNA code, that's all. You can do some of the most amazing things. You can put a human mind inside the body of pretty much any creature. Even a monkey. If you really believe you evolved from a monkey, be careful, you might just get what you wish for! You might be able to put a human brain in a monkey, though it would be a mistake to believe this would result in the monkey having a human mind. For that one has to subscribe to the false mind/body dualism. Its ok if you don't understand. Of all the people in human history, you skilldude were born into an age with the internet. You had access to more information that any other generation in human history. So you had plenty of time to check if human evolution theory was correct. You choose to be lazy and not bother to check. You have no basis to make such an assertion about skildude's laziness or otherwise. Your rejection of human evolutionary theory may well be correct though I suspect it is not. I note you appeared to give up on trying to convince us that genetic clones are identical after being provided with evidence to the contrary, this was after stating that you had expertise in the subject (I make no such claim). Could it be that given enough data points you'd do the same with your rejection of human evolution? Here's a start, the striking similarities of the DNA of great apes (including homo sapiens sapiens): Source: http://www.mun.ca/biology/scarr/Human_Ape_chromosomes.htm Sarge wrote: Indeed, I posted about it a few weeks/months ago. We did have a similar set of posts around here a few months ago. I note that William made similar references to infinitesimals/hyper-reals there too. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Having read Genesis, and played their Abacab album, you certainly do need to explain. Sarge, Nobody is forcing you or skilldude to believe anything. I'm stating what i know to be scientific fact. Humanity is about to end and judgement day is almost here. So everyone will get their "moment of glory" where they will be given the chance to plead their case before the Lord God, their creator. This is scientific fact! John. |

Do you believe any of the stuff i posted on these boards in the last year and a half? Don't make a laugh of the question. Answer it seriously. Have i made it all up Martin? Or do you think i really have something? John. |

No I was born in 1965. I remember having the mumps and a color TV. I never had an internet as a child. heck I didnt see or use a computer until i was in college. So you had plenty of time to check if human evolution theory was correct. You choose to be lazy and not bother to check. I assume you are talking about Darwins theory and not some other misguided attempt at explaining nature on this planet. Linnaeus created modern Taxonomy. assigning and labeling animals with greek or latin names. names that separated animals into specific categories. Modern taxonomists using DNA have found that the old method of comparing anatomy and other biological evidence was very close in it labeling one could ever imagine. Very few species of flora or fauna have had its names changed, excluding bacteria.
People have been ranting ab out judgement day for around 2000 years. Still hasnt happened. probably won't anytime soon.
really so I am a monkey but you aren't. Amazing isn't it that the primates are that similar but you just won't take that half step forward and agree with me and all of science that primates are related to humans. BTW we prefer to be called Great Apes not monkeys.
we've been eating and growing genetically modified foods for several generations. Have you ever considered that the ever increasing yields of crops and live stock is due to genetic selection by humans. We've been manipulating crops for a long time. I bet we wouldn't even recognize the first barley and wheat that was cultivated. I bet it looked more like rye grass than the fields of wheat we see now In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
