It will not cost you thousands of dollars. Most electrical power companies will at request (some have fees) put a recording device at the meter to determine which side the problem is on. Sometimes this is the only way to determine intermittent problems and which side of the meter they are on. The home owner could have this done with their electrician and then move forward from there. OH, facepalm. Why didn't I think of that? Right. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

That's going to be a bit hard Mark as they're one of my best customers & a lovely family as well. Im glad you updated us on this. Now I know that this is not your job, But do you know if the folks next door have electrical problems also? Is it a house or an apartment? How old is the house, how old is the wiriring? Please suggest that they find the problem. [/quote] Old James |

One of my customers is a decent qualified electrician who owes me a few favours(sent a lot of business work his way) & I'm going to recommend him to customer (already emailed him to expect a call from her). Whether or not she does that is down to her I'm afraid. |

Electrical issues are not like demons. They have a root cause, and can be chased down. Whether they are limited to a service box at a single dwelling or causing problems for an entire branch service. I once lost half of my service due to an underground cable being pulled down by the ground around my house slowly settling over the years. It finally got yanked so tight it shorted and took out a fuse on a service pole I never even knew existed. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Most of our power distribution, at least in this neck of the woods, is overhead. Which leaves it rather susceptible to interruption by storms. My power comes into the house by underground from the main grid off a pole some 200 feet from the corner of my lot. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Now if they could only interface this with steering wheels, maybe it will be the end of drink driving! AlcoSense TruTouch |

Interesting though that reading between the lines they seemed to have "accepted" that a certain proportion of British workers have a drink problem in the first place .... Something we always knew anyway but which has been swept under the carpet. ..especially in the Houses of Parliament! |

Doesn't help when the cheapest cold drinks sold in the local supermarket is probably beer. Yep, as seen on "Motorway cops" "road wars" etc. Only the other week, happened to catch one of them on tv, the old bill had stopped a lorry, driver had 3 supermarket bags worth.... ..one of the bags held what the cops thought was empty beer cans.... ....nope, it was urine, now if that doesn't tell a story, I don't know what will! |

Something we always knew anyway but which has been swept under the carpet. Dammit, sir, explain yourself. Are you suggesting that our well-paid, usually qualified in law, representatives, are overly imbibing? At some cost to the tax-payer, as well? Cads. However, with my 21st Century vocabulary and service time in the RAF, I can think of words that would be far more appropriate....for more modern-day charlatans, thieves and liars! On the positive side of politics, at least the Lib-Dems (seemingly) seem to have scuppered the Tories idea for everyone in the country writing to their MP in virtuality! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Being completely honest this is complete news to me. First reaction is that he has been charged not convicted. I need to try to find out more about it. But on the face of it, it isn't good reading. Sorry Chris, that was just my prankster side coming to the fore after your post.... :) With technology & forensics working hand in hand together, it's getting more & more difficult to escape detection, something which idiots like him, if indeed he is guilty of that, should wake up & realise. |

Just how many counts of using WMD would that be on this side of the pond? Does it matter? You should be getting a task force ready to "save" us! |

I have had XP for a very long time now as I am still using the computer I bought in 2004. I guess soon that I will be moving up to a newer laptop which will most likely have 7 or 8 loaded. I'm not looking forward to the change. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Well he has made his discovery public and registered as an arms manufacturer. So the authorities know who he is. To make the gun, Mr Wilson received a manufacturing and seller's licence from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Surley we should be more worried about someone who makes a similar discover but keeps quite and sells hundreds of these "home made guns" to criminals. Because if he has done it others will. |

Here's a good one to either laugh at or cry over..... ...so, do I persevere or walk away? Several years ago, received a call from a Home customer from her workplace. They had problems with printers/internet connections & problems with 2 desktops. Printer problems were a mess as the Boss kept adding new printers & taking the previous ones home -eventually sorted it out. Internet was a pigs dinner as most of the desktops were using wireless adapters (they had onboard NIC's). The building was wired up with dado rails with 16 dual jack sockets for phone & data but no switch cabinets or switches (2 floor building with all offices in use). Spent all day there noting everything, providing a network diagram & a list of what will be required. Got asked for a quote - gave one - 3 days & £2,600. Several months after that, received a call from the Boss & on arriving, found that the job had been done for £5,000 - still using wireless adapters on several desktops & on checking the whole building, found 5 jacks not active. Since that time, been constantly telling him to get them wired up as there are needed - been ignored. Not a problem for me as they continue to experience the same issues & as far as I'm concerned is a cashcow for me. Now the crap has hit the fan! Monday evening, the building was firebombed with the accounts office & everything in it destroyed. Was there yesterday for the same issues as before & also to assist the boss in providing info to the Insurance Assessor. Several employees were moaning about internet access (their office jacks are not live)& problems with their printers so was asked for a quote (he already has it). Stay with it or walk away? What would you do? |
