Give BOINC some time, it still does not know how fast your ATI is (so asks for less work for it). I had this video card in my old system for a few weeks and had similar issues. Its difficult for me to accept that Boinc will figure this out on its own. I am impatiant to get my system functioning at %100 percent of capacity. My system has now finished all the ati work units and uploaded them....no new ati wu have downloaded or are scheduled to attempt to download. Any idea how long I should wait?

Since the addition of the config file i have noticed my system downloads 4 files at a time instead of the 2 it used to. Yes, this is the reason: <max_file_xfers_per_project>4</max_file_xfers_per_project> #2 How do I get Boinc to actually use the Ati card aswell as the Nvidia gts? Give BOINC some time, it still does not know how fast your ATI is (so asks for less work for it). With time BOINC will learn how much work per day your ATI can do and will increase the number of tasks for it. #3 How do I keep my que full of work so that when we experience these pesky outages every thing keeps working. You already know the answer: 1) Maintain enough tasks to keep busy for at least 5-10 days ... and up to an additional 0.10 days 2) Use SIV (you have the link (Message 1272722)) - no install needed: Get siv.zip Extract it Start SIV (use SIV64X.exe for Windows 7 Professional x64) Right-click [Windows] button (or use the arrow in it) -> BOINC Status Check 'Auto Retry' (you can now minimize the 'BOINC Status' window, do not exit it for 'Auto Retry' to work) - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

Finished the last Ati unit 2 hours ago....held on to it till just now when I manually updated. Currently my que has: 2 AP cpu wu 1 AP ATI wu 50 (or so) 6.03 Seti cpu wu 70 (or so) 6.10 seit Cuda units System downloaded a signle Astropulse Ati unit it is now the only work for the ati card. The system will finish working on this single unit by 3 am. At which time it will almost certianly sit on that work till I wake up and poke it some. #2 How do I get Boinc to actually use the Ati card aswell as the Nvidia gts? So the ati card and nvidia are both functional(sortof) #3 How do I keep my que full of work so that when we experience these pesky outages every thing keeps working. There is lots of work for my cpu and nvidia card but comparativly no work at all for the ati card. #4 (new point)How do I keep the fastest processor(my HD 5770 ATI) in my computer busy 100% of the time?

8/18/2012 4:24:40 PM | SETI@home | Started download of ap_19my10ab_B2_P0_00205_20120818_18915.wu I think you're just asking for work because you're got downloads backed off, you'll just have to dod a bit of button bashing, and network suspend/resume to get them going, You could also get SIV, as well as telling all sorts of things about your system, it'll also retry Boinc downloads, you just have to run it on the Boinc Status page, and select retry downloads. O.K, make sure you haven't got any Setiathome tasks suspended, as Boinc won't ask for work if there are any, also make sure you haven't got No New Tasks selected (you shouldn't have as you got CPU AP earlier) (Boinc 7.0.31 and later will actually tell you why you didn't ask for work) Can you post your startup messages please, the first 20 to 30 lines will do, Claggy |

I have changed my buffer size to 5 and .01 I manually "retry now" downloading that AP work unit 15 times, over a 6 hour period. It did just finally finish downloading and is now humming along a just over a % a minute. Which seem pretty fast. However 10+ hours to download 90minutes of work with constant user intervention aint cutting it for me. I just want it to work like the nvidia ....50 plus units served up and ready to go. I will see if i can't follow your instuctions here...getting to the proper directory is a pain....Windows 7 defaults to not letting me see that entire system directory and I don't know how to change that setting. |

My current work buffer is set to Min 2 days Maz additional 0.5 Days. (per the instruction of multiple forum members) For Boinc 7 we got a new work fetch scheduler, Try making your cache settings 5 days + 0.01 days, this will cache 5 days work minimum, then every 0.01 days it'll try and top up to full again, (otherwise it'll wait half a day before asking again) Claggy |

It would appear I haven't missed any settings, Boinc and Lunatics just arent capable of making this card function properly. I think your only problem at the moment (Boinc wise) is that you need to download some work, (Boinc 6.12.x and later backoff downloads quicker, and for longer than Boinc 6.10.x and earlier) O.K, If you go to the transfers tab, then use the shift key to select your backed-off downloads, then select 'Retry Now', Since DNS switches between the two download servers every five minutes you might get slow downloads on whichever server is overloaded, If you try going to the Activity menu, and selecting 'Network activity suspended', then reselect the previous network setting, this can have the effect of switching your downloads to the other download server, you might need to try this a couple of times, After that it's just a case of making sure you're got the right cache settings, making sure Boinc asks for the right type of work, If you make an cc_config.xml (with Notepad) with the following in it, drop it in your Boinc Data directory, and restart Boinc, you'll see how much CPU/Nvidia/ATI work you're requesting: <cc_config> <log_flags> <sched_op_debug>1</sched_op_debug> </log_flags> <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> <max_file_xfers>10</max_file_xfers> <max_file_xfers_per_project>4</max_file_xfers_per_project> <max_tasks_reported>100</max_tasks_reported> <save_stats_days>760</save_stats_days> </options> </cc_config> Claggy |

No one respoonded to one item in your first post: I only have 1 monitor...and did try to us the windows menu but have been unable so fare to make the switch. I had wrist surgery on wenesday...so pain killers are making me a little extra foggy. I will give this thread a few more day to come up with a better answer than pullin the card. But if there isn't a better answer ebay is its next stop. It would appear I haven't missed any settings, Boinc and Lunatics just arent capable of making this card function properly. I shouldn't have purchased an ati card for seti. 97% of the top 500 faster seti crunchers use nvidia.

No one respoonded to one item in your first post: There's also a Windows Display setting to select the Main Display too, On the Desktop, right click and select 'Screen Resolution', on the 'Change the appearance of displays' screen, select the Display that you want to use, then click the 'Make this is my Main Display' checkbox, (this is assuming you're got monitors connected to both GPUs) Claggy |

Thank you for addressing my first question. :) I have web settings but I change the settings in boinc to effect the normal operation of boinc. It would seem that selling the ATI card and picking up a faster nvidia is the only option available to me at the moment. Still 0 ATI units to work on....WTS boinc. Boinc has been trying to down 2 AP unit for 6 hours....(only 1 of which will be for the ATI)

My current work buffer is set to Min 2 days Maz additional 0.5 Days. (per the instruction of multiple forum members) Those settings will work, but the higher settings will get you more AP's. AP work flow is intermittent - splitters complete their files quickly, then no work for a day or two until the multibeam splitters catch up and more files are mounted. Thus, it's best to stock up when they are available. If you are using the web based cache settings, you need to make sure the setting in BOINC doesn't override it. Any computer preference you have set in in BOINC invokes the override, and the web based settings are not used. Use the clear button on one of the computing prefernce tabs to reset BOINC settings if you want to use the web settings I prefer the BOINC settings and think it would work better with multiple computers. No one respoonded to one item in your first post: #1 How do I set my ati card as my main monitor card? That's usually a BIOS setting. If your BIOS has only one choice for display from PCI-E, you might have to switch slots. Or maybe someone knows what to do with two cards. Another Fred Support SETI@home when you search the Web with GoodSearch or shop online with GoodShop.
