Thanks. I can't think of anything else that would help them track it down re speed: ping 40ms, down 24.7Mbps, up 17.2Mbps |

re speed: ping 40ms, down 24.7Mbps, up 17.2Mbps I hope i live long enough to get those type of numbers. Given the rate things get upgraded here, i doubt it. :-/ Grant Darwin NT |

Richard Richard, is it possible to change the time displayed in the Messages tab to UTC ... if not how do I get you a copy of the messages being generated into UTC for you. |

Local time 6:46pm Melbourne, Australia I think the only way to change the actual displayed time in the message tab is to change the time zone setting for the computer as a whole. That should be a safe and reversible operation (you're not changing the system clock, just the human representation of it), but it would temporarily change everything - timestamps on documents, emails, etc. etc. Probably not worth the hassle and potential - however small - risk. The message that quote came from ended up timed here at 8:56am UTC, which (allowing for some thinking and typing time) matches Melbourne's +10 timezone. It's probably simplest and least error-prone if you just post any message tab copies in local time without attempting conversion - we can subtract the 10 hours ourselves. At least at this season of the year, we aren't going to get caught out by any sudden DST changes, in either hemisphere. I still think it would be interesting to see the time interval between request and reply when you try to report, and anything you can find out about how long that file is in http xfer. The hardest part will be finding a quiet time on the data link - we seem to be keeping it pretty busy these days. I haven't heard anything back from the staff, but they will have been busy playing catch-up from the Independence Day holiday yesterday. I've pointed them to this thread, so they can read any new information themselves. |

Richard I have made a copy of the stdoutdae.txt file if you wish it. In relation to <http_debug> or <http_xfer_debug> is this doable within 6.10.58 ?? If so am quite happy to instigate and provide data. Lionel |

7/07/2012 10:40:07 AM SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. So, between 74 and 98 seconds between request and reply. That doesn't seem to be enough for any real timeout problem, and the uploads (~30KB) going through in 5/6/7 seconds - including connect and acknowledge - pretty much rules out comms problems. I think we're back to David's programming of 'edge' (hard) cases - probably not much more you can do locally, except the version swap and limiting report sizes. |

Richard Thanks and the offer to provide any data that I ca is on the table. I'll go through a flip and back flip either today or tomorrow. After doing this is there anything that you might like me to attempt to help iron out the issue. Lionel |

Why did you reset the project and did not follow the advice given in this thread? Arkayn did tell you that it's the same problem covered here. Gruß, Gundolf |

Just a couple of things: I have gone to 6.12.34 and reported all ~8k wus. My observation of 6.12.34 is that is takes longer to download wus compared to 6.10.58. It also appears to download at a slower speed and is more likely to stop downloading and sit there longer before moving on to the next wu. It also appear to be quicker at going into back off and stays there longer than 6.10.58. About 11 minutes ago I had a 3 wus that needed to be downloaded and I have watched them prior to typing this and whilst typing this. They are still there and indicating that they are downloading, yet there is nothing really coming through. Elapsed time on one of them in 15+ minutes (It has taken almost 25 minutes to force 3 wus to download). The other issue with 6.12.34 is caching. In moving to 6.12.34 before, the cache only filled to about 25% and then sat there (this I watched for about 2 days). The moment I moved back 6.10.58, the cache started filling... So, given the issues that I notice above, is there a version of boinc which is as good as or better than 6.10.58?? The reason I ask is that I do not wish to have to go through an upgrade and downgrade each time there is an issue at Berkeley. Whilst it only affects one box at the moment, it won't be that way in the future as I move to multiple GTX6xx series cards (and others crunchers do as well). TA, you might notice a spike in my RAC which set this box above yours in the top 20 (you are at 8, this one was at 7 at time of viewing). Instead of ramping up towards you, it might now ramp down below you. cheers Lionel |

Simon, S@H, unlike some other projects, uses a validation system. Each WU is sent out to two users, who crunch them in their own time. Now if you return your result quickly while the other party takes some time to get finish you just have to sit back and wait. There is a "deadline", normally several weeks off, so you may have to have fairly long wait before the second result is returned and compared. If the two results don't agree, or the other person doesn't return in time then the WU gets sent out to third person, and you have to wait longer. S&H isn't about "instant gratification", but is a "long haul" project. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Just a couple of things: Its not just "apparent", it's a fact. Since BOINC 6.12 all the file transfers are very lazy, and the backoffs rise their duration in a very wild way. But, it is a design choice, theoretically, to make less stress on servers... (I think this is stressing the servers a big more due to all the transfers pending, but I have no access to servers statistics so... its just a guess) Boinc 7.xx its said that its a bit better than 6.12, but still worse than 6.10. As it's not easy to roll back to 6.xx from 7.xx Ive not tried it... |

I have watch the cache and it is dropping as time moves on, so it's back to 6.10.58 soon. The other thing I have noticed is that I have been getting many more "recent lost work units" compared to before I moved to 6.12.34. |

The other thing I have noticed is that I have been getting many more "recent lost work units" compared to before I moved to 6.12.34 Both of those issues would be server related. Network traffic is pretty much always maxed out, but sometimes it's more maxed out than others. For the last several hours that has been the case. Also the Scheduler just isn't giving out much work at the moment. I'm probably getting work with 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 requests at the moment. Response is most often "No tasks sent". I'm running v6.10.58 Grant Darwin NT |
