Hey man, Like, what happened. The MySQL db had some sort of issue. So everything off-line until 4 or 5 hours ago. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Hey man, Like, what happened. I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you. :P SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

I'm getting fed up of cache depleting & not replenshing itself. Seriously thinking of moving over to PrimeGrid before my 2^25 credit goal end of year - maybe even 20mlln for 6008784 or 25mlln overall. |

I'm getting fed up of cache depleting & not replenshing itself. On which system? 3 have v6, one has v7. Since the way the cache works on v7 is different to v6 the result is that either the v6 systems will have a full cache or the v7. Not both. I'd suggest runing one version on all systems, or at least using local settings for the v7 system. My systems do the work & request more. Due to the extended outage it takes a few requests to get any allocated, and it can take a couple of goes to finally download due to the traffic. But at the moment my caches are (slowly) re-filling. I'm not sure about "wee panic" - I'm ok in terms of my little boys' room functionality - but meanwhile back in SETI land I'm thinking rather than just be frustrated with a machine (v6.12.34) that does not refill it's cache to go for v7.0.28 & swap the cache allocation round as per mentioned elsewhere (e.g 0.5 + additional 5). I'm never going to get the maximum out of this machine if the project is this unreliable. There are far too many variables these days. God knows how the people with no PC/SETI experience cope. It's just constantly timing out trying to download. I shouldn't have to keep reverting to a proxy to do this. |

I'm getting fed up of cache depleting & not replenshing itself. Or just set up a different venue/location with different preferences just for the Boinc v7 hosts, you do have four venues to play with, Claggy |

Just a sugestion, Is easy to make your DL faster with the help of a proxy and/or make a bath file that automates the retry, this keep you free to do more important things, like drink a beer... There are a lot of working examples in the forum. You should try, i keep my hosts with full off work and remember i live far from US so the conection problem is far more complicated from our forth contry world slow internet providers. |

Pick any from the Open Proxy List but keep a close eye on them when using one as they can drop the site off if they think that its using to much of their resources which in most cases will result in nothing happening, or a lot of failed downloads. ;) Cheers. |

There are another source at: http://www.freeproxylists.net/ It´s dificult to tell exactly what proxy is better for each user, normaly you try to use a highup time from your country, sometimes use another country proxy works better. There are a reason but dificult to understand and explain, just think is relates who your ISP is conected to the WWW. So the best proxy for someone did not be the best for another. As a example i live in Brazil and for a few days i use this proxy 50.22.206.184 port 8080 that is located in Dallas TX USA... Since i have 3 different location with some host on that and different ISP for each one, This proxy does not work fine on one of this two otrherlocation, so i need to use another proxy, in the other conection i simply not need a proxy the connections to Seti works 100%. I hear from a guy that lives in Australia some months ago who using a Brazilian proxy, but when i try to use that proxy my system simply not work, etc. Take some time to learn the "unwriten rules" but after few "god and bad choices" you will be an expert. ANd belive me you will feel the difference if you have connection problems. There are something else you need to know when using a public proxy, sometimes they simply cut off our access if they feel you use too much of his bandwith, so if it stops to work, check if Seti is on line (the proxy cant work if the Seti servers are ofline) if yes, try another proxy. |

I too am continuing to experience a severe inability to fill the cache on my hungry machine with endless time-outs. I have even "reboot", whatever that is... Does this mean we now have to babysit a choice of proxy just to keep a reliable cache? I am on the verge of stopping SETI on this machine for another project. |

I too am continuing to experience a severe inability to fill the cache on my hungry machine with endless time-outs. I have even "reboot", whatever that is... That would probably be for the best. I doubt the server connections will ever be reliable enough for you as long as continuous excessive demands are placed upon them without upgrading the server hardware and getting a bigger pipe. Future increases in client hardware capabilities is only going to exacerbate the situation. |

Why? What has changed over the past few weeks? It's been fine for a year. |
