Del-boy will do "whatever it takes" to protect the UK from Greek influx

Article's sub title... "David Cameron has defended plans to close Britain’s borders to Greeks fleeing their country’s economic problems, saying he would do anything necessary to protect the United Kingdom".

Really Del-boy? Then how about protecting us fully from the Eurozone clowns?

Could she really be another "Maggie" in the making?

Germany's "Maggie" may have fooled them all

"Still, her skill at diverting this summit from discussing more sweeping issues like euro bonds should not be underestimated, said Holger Schmieding, a London-based economist at Germany’s Berenberg Bank.

‘‘That Monti, Rajoy and Hollande are now happily selling this as a victory says a lot about the diplomatic skills of Ms. Merkel,’’ he said".

...we'll see.

But she won't be a British Maggie will she? Thatcher if she were in power today would give Germany & Europe short thrift, If the Mekon turns out to be as good, woe betide us!

I really don't know so much......she is beginning to show up weaknesses within other nations & they are beginning to understand her stance....

..whether or not it'll turn out good or bad, she cannot be faulted, & for that, she has to be admired.

Merkel in Rome

We'll have to wait for tomoorow's reports to see what the outcome was.

Looking worse for France & Hollande Sauce(© Chris S) as they're getting too close to the tipping point in which a "bailout" is required.....

Hollande should consult French with economic reality

If that happens, who's going to be next?

& if it did happen, the media will be furious as there's no F in PIIGS

Merkel in Rome

What the report in the link amounts to is that Spain and Italy deliver more
clout now. They have Germany by the "Bälle" because of the old adage, "You owe
the bank £1000 it's your problem, you owe them £1M it's their problem". These
two PIGS debt problems are really now the Euro systems problem which really
makes it a problem for Germany now to have to worry about.

That may well be true Nick, but what many don't seem to grasp is that if Germany goes down - there will be no doubt - the Euro will be dead & buried instantly.

Any one or more of the others & it can still be recoverable - unfortunately at this time Germany is the lynchpin.

In reply to my own post, Germany will soon be at a crossroads if the eurozone crisis is not resolved any time soon...

I don't see how one sole country out of 27 in this ECM can possibly be capable of
holding this currency together especially if Germany does go back into recession.
I suspect that once we go into deflation, and it's looking like it, then no one
will be able to hold this currency together.

Sorry Nick, my error. I meant other than Germany, if one or two go down, with Germany still being the lynchpin, it is recoverable. If Germany goes down, it will not.

Interesting reading...The UK may not need a referendum on Europe, which would more than likely let Del-boy & "Rodney" off the hook.

German Party leader to axe coalition

"He said he wouldn't accept the transfer of major powers to a "European monster state." He said he would turn the next general election and the Bavarian regional election, both scheduled for 2013, into a vote on Europe. "We will put this question to the people."

Now that would put the "cat amongst the pidgeons" & if it did happen, then that will enforce The Beginning of the End

German fear & uncertainty - the Euro endangers German economy

Yes, umm; if it wasn't for the formation of the ECM and the ECB too the PIGS
would most probably have collapsed by now causing Germany's economy to nose-dive
ages ago. The ECM austerity packages now being adopted by many may be hurting
Germany's economy but the hurt would have been much greater for her had the PIGS
still been under their own former currencies. Here they would have had to devalue
and undertake austerity measures too so buying even less from Germany. This may
be why the PIGS feel that Germany should shoulder more of PIGS debt responsibility
by permitting a Euro Bond to be issued by the ECB. It sounds logical in a way
but since Germany will not be able to maintain growth, even if the PIGS did
have access to a Euro Bond, then underwriting a Euro Bond could be immensely
costly to Germany in the long run.

Yep, so it appears that "our" solution would be the best option at the moment, as the longer this is dragged out, the harsher the outcome.

Would kill-off any chances of the PIGS getting their hands on a Euro Bond.
Why Merkel said, as I reported last week, "There will be no Euro Bond while
I'm alive", she said this to put her coalition parties minds at rest.
What's going to happen if Spain & Italy's bond rates turn upwards again? Well,
if Merkel keeps to her word and no Euro Bond comes to their rescue then it's
out of the Euro for these two PIGS....lock-stock and two smoking frankfurters!!
Served up the Churchill way?
