You are only showing one computer on you list - that appears to be the aged notebook, not an x6 powered desktop.
So, are you sure that you created the account on the x6 using the same email account etc. as you have been using for the notebook. I "lost" a pc because I used the wrong email account when setting it, and it took a fair bit of work to get it going as I wanted it to.

The Ubuntu 12.04 package of Boinc (7.0.24) is broken for Seti@home and a few other projects. (It's just a issue with Ubuntu's teams not seeming to want to change the package)

If you are trying to use that broken 7.0.24 Boinc, You need to remove it and manually install Boinc from Berkeley's website here, or try adding a PPA (an alternative repository) by doing:

for ubuntu 12.04, (Installs 7.0.27 built off of Debian's SID)
sudo apt-get remove boinc
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pkg-boinc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install boinc

You can see this thread. Look towards the end for ideas.

Dave,

I think you are on the right track here. I have been poking around the forums a bit and I saw another thread you had been posting on about the 12.04 LTR and how the devs were dragging their feet about making the changes to the repositories.

Let me ask you this: IF I put in the PPA as you suggest, will this be kept up to date down the line or is this simply a bandage for the short run? If it is only a bandage, how will I know when the main repo is finally updated and, since I am still learning the ropes of Debian (Ubuntu) after swinging over from Fedora, how to migrate back to the main repo when it is finally "Ready for Prime-Time"?

{on a unrelated note, how do I get rid of this outdated signature that I don't even remember adding to my forum account??}

Edit your Community preferences, remove the signature from the box, then click update near the bottom of the page,

This PPA will be kept current with the most stable build of Debians SID version (which will always be current release or beta packages or somewhere in between). Simple answer yes you will get updates as needed. Currently as far as repository installs go for Ubuntu this is going to be your best bet.

When the standard repository version is bumped to a working version (if ever LOL), you get rid of this PPA repository by:
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pkg-boinc-ppa-precise.list

Which removes the PPA from your Apt sources (there are other methods of doing this also)

And then you just do a:
sudo apt-get update

which updates your package list without the added PPA's packages

at which time a:
sudo apt-get upgrade

would upgrade your Boinc, IF the repository version was newer than your installed version.

You could also just add the PPA, install boinc, and then remove the PPA, and your Boinc version would not upgrade until/unless the repository version surpasses your installed version (which would be 7.0.27).

And one tiny side note: The bug with the 7.0.24 package would not prevent you from connecting to the project, it would connect and download tasks just fine (unless they changed something on the server side to not allow 7.0.24 to connect), the issue is work units will error once they attempt to run. So you still may be having another issue, but either way you don't want to use 7.0.24

If you have any further questions on this issue please start a thread or post in one of the Ubuntu ones in Unix/Linux in the Q&A forums.

Thanks and good luck.

Claggy,

Thanks for the tip. Finally got the silly signature thing resolved. Been looking for that everywhere I could think of and it is SO nice to have it done now!

Dan,

You are a true Prince among men. I'm not usually much on the idea of testing a beta anything these days. My "gee, let's see if this works" days are pretty much behind me and I am at a point where I simply want my stuff to work.

I know this isn't the thread for this kind of stuff and I thank you for taking an extra moment to put me on the straight-and-narrow here.

Matt,

Sorry for hijacking your "Holy crap! Our stuff melted down!!" thread. Appreciate your patience with my diversion and I hope you guys get it all resolved permanently and even get to bring some of the previously thought of as dead boxes back online. Loosing hardware is never a good thing.

One last little question --- I notice that many of you are Volunteer Testers, so what do you to to test them? Is it written, oral? What happens if they don't pass?

If you join Seti Beta, which is where we test the apps for the Main project, you'll get a Volunteer tester tag,

Further proof that we REALLY need a "sarcasm" font. It was an effort to poke fun at a title I find somewhat humorous for reasons that do not seem obvious to anybody else.

But thank you for the honest reply, Claggy
