Thanks guys! I'm going to give Lunatics a whirl! @Wembley I don't see version 7.0.27, only 7.0.25. Where would I find it? Is it Beta or something? |

You might want to upgrade to BOINC 7.0.27, it fixes a couple bugs.

Lunatics apps are seti only. You will not get any problems running other projects. Lunatics apps are available for either CPU and GPU. Like HAL mentioned you will need to update yourself when new versions will be released but we make sure to have an upgrade of the installer available in time. You just need to check the forums. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Ok, I'm looking at possibly using Lunatics, but had a few questions. I couldn't find the answer to these questions anywhere, but it may be because they are so fundamental that they may be assumed. The Lunatics Seti@Home apps would be, as the name implies, just for the Seti@Home project. Their read me covers what types of applications they have for the project CPU, GPU & such. In most, if not all, situation their apps are quicker for running tasks & actually have a few tweaks to processes tasks on GPU's that would otherwise not be able to be processed. Optimized application for other projects would be listed on that projects site I would imagine. Generally there are not any issues with applications from other projects. In that if you are running one tasks form 4 different projects at the same time. They will probably be OK, but there could be some weird interaction between projects that is not currently known. The big gotcha is that when the applications change you must update them yourself. So when Seti@Home switches to v7, probably in the next 5 years, you will need to get the latest apps from the lunatics. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours |

Ok, I'm looking at possibly using Lunatics, but had a few questions. I couldn't find the answer to these questions anywhere, but it may be because they are so fundamental that they may be assumed. 1. Lunatics only helps with SETI tasks? 2. Can I run it on a computer that is running another project in addition to SETI? (It won't screw up the other project?) 3. Will it speed up CPU tasks or just GPU tasks? 4. Any other "gotchas" I should look out for? I'm running BOINC 7.0.25. I've read the readme file. I've run CPU-ID and know the instruction sets for each of my computer's CPUs. I've downloaded the proper Lunatics install file (Windows XP, 32 bit) version 0.40. Thanks for your help! -MichaelMac |
