The question is I want the points from the I7 to go to with the I7 to the New Board/machine. and Then the I7 HDD is going to a new baord then to an SDD. The thing to do here is to make sure that the i7 keeps the same computer name. But not just that, I assume you mean to plug in the i3 on this board after you took the i7 off? Then you will need to either set No New Tasks and run down the whole cache of Seti (and any other projects you may run), or move this BOINC data directory over to the new system. The i3 needs to start on a clean BOINC. You will have to move or delete the BOINC data directory! You cannot use it for the i3, as then the credits now appointed to your i7 will go to the i3! So: -> Move the BOINC data directory to the new system's hard drive (don't put it on the SSD, really not necessary). Then install BOINC on that system, pointing the installer to the data directory. Third screen of the installer, click Advanced, then change the path of the data directory only. |

Well thanks for the input, we,ll see how it goes this weekend. The I7 is going to the New Board, and an old AMD Board HDD is moving to the Old Intel Board that the I7 came off of. Then the I7 HDD is going to a new baord then to an SDD. Keep you posted...I'm sure to have wonderments. The version of Windows 7 on these HDD's are not OEM, so I should just have to reactive with the Keys....But if I have to call MS, been there done that. The more you do this type of thing, the less questions that have. If it all fails...I've got them backed up on my WHS. It sounds like too much fun to me... |

Agreed, though I have had situations in the past where replacing the motherboard required a phone call to Microsoft to re-activate, but that took less than 5 minutes and wasn't a big deal. Using SysPrep is a bit overkill for the average user. SysPrep is supposed to prepare an image for mass deployment. Everyone else should just look at a disc cloning package like Acronis TrueImage. |

Hi, I've purchased a new SLI motherboard. I'm going to move my old I7 off a single PCI express16 slot board to a SLI board, on the old motherboard I'm going to put in an I3 and give it a graphics card to do some seti@home tasks. The question is I want the points from the I7 to go to with the I7 to the New Board/machine. Here are the proper hardware steps how to do this in case any one is interested, hardware wise. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/135077-windows-7-installation-transfer-new-computer.html Second question....how to a post a hot link as above. For wana be system builders that link is priceless; as it shows how to set up your system drive for an out-of-body experience, and land it onto a new machine without reinstalling system or apps, just the MB specfic drivers and treats the hard drives reunion with the new Board as a new Windows 7 install...Window7 only. If this helps all the bionic info is on the system drive. Your Welcome... Wawasoo. |
