This is all a bit odd!!!

The daemon is running, the GUI is looking for localhost - you have work and the init file has execute permissions for all. That's the basics covered. Its been a long time since I ran BOINC under Linux and I am struggling tom understand why the daemon is not starting the processing.

If you had damaged the files, I would have expected your cache to vanish - but it hasn't - its ready and waiting!

Do you have any output in the log file?

In window: on the blue panel on the top: "boincmanager - (localhost)"

OK.

In the BOINC GUI, have you connected to localhost? (from memory, you need to do something like, select Advanced, then Select Computer and then enter localhost).....?

No symlinks to my knowledge of and a 3-ware/LSI SATA-RAID with 3 Samsumg SATA DISKS working fine (no battery backup).

The reboot was was needed, because the machine was in a kind of a freezed state - it did not respond to anything (keyboard, three finger salute, mouse movement, .. not to anything).

It ran fine for about a week and suddenly then it just did not. What I remember doing to my machine is listed on my first post. But - since - I'm not an experienced Linux user I can not tell any more of what happened to my setup.

I'd like a quick solution: Something like "yum install something"- and then copy some lunatics files with right permissions. That's all I need.

what are the permissions on: /etc/rc.d/init.d/boinc-client ?

You can just cd into that directory and do an ls -l

I think you have a permissions/access issues. You have a daemon running - you have work - good so far. However:

/sbin/restorecon -v /etc/rc.d/init.d/boinc-client

failed and that command should just be listing changes in file labels...

What sort of disk setup have you got? Are you using symlinks anywhere in the BOINC setup? Did you do anything to change account policies prior to reboot, and what caused the reboot.....

I just had to reboot my machine and it booted up Linux just fine (I'm typing on it
).

Normally it (the machine) would have started up crunching away as usual - except now it did NOT!

"Messages" and all other tab-pages are empty in my Boinc manager on my fedora 64-bit machine display.

My last commands on my super-user account are:
# /sbin/restorecon -v /etc/rc.d/init.d/boinc-client [this one failed]
# semanage fcontext -a -t consoletype_exec_t '/etc/rc.d/init.d/boinc-client'
[this was ok] - I don't know what it did !!!!
#semanage fcontext -a -t consoletype_exec_t '/etc/rc.d/init.d/boinc-client'
[did not complain at all] - what ever it did

On my terminal window after a few minutes of panic and terror I ran "boinc-client start" and the terminal responded after a moment of hesitation green in brackets OK!

... but I still do not see any Boinc related processes running. (ps -A)

Those of You who may be pondering what the **** was he doing when he issued those commands .... -- Well, the answer is that the 'selinux AVC' said that I was supposed to do so.

Is there anything for the host to process? Have you had a look in your BOINC directory to see if you have any tasks on your host? I know there are tasks allocated to your linux host, but have they downlaoded?
