I also think its stupid for the US to be ramping down its space program while China is ramping theres up. Once you loose the people with those skills they are hard to replace. And if you loose the institutional memory, You end up having to relearn things that didnt work.

For several years now I have been meaning to buy the Rosetta Stone Spanish language software, living in Florida it seemed a wise investment. But now instead I think we need to be learning Chinese. There is a limit on the number of refugees coming out of Cuba and Haiti but there is no limit on the number of Chinese that could someday occupy North America.

And if you live in Russia you better be in a hurry to learn Chinese. They need oil and a lot of it and Russia just may be where they decide to get it from.

I suspect the Chinese are looking to find oil in the South China Sea -- they claim that space already (Vietnam does as well, but they don't have nukes, like Russia).

Aside from that, they expect to corner the market on Iranian oil as well.

And if you live in Russia you better be in a hurry to learn Chinese. They need oil and a lot of it and Russia just may be where they decide to get it from.

The Chinese have been making expansive moves near all the waters around it -- it is one of the factors binding the other countries to the US. The US may end up with a base in Vietnam -- that would be interesting.

I see they're closer to Okinawa rather than Japan or China.
