Ahhhh... But how many in reality being as you deliberately did not look?

Just as you are legislating to "turn a blind eye" to industrial scale commercial farm cruelty?...

Look, I dont agree with mistreatment of animals. And when it comes time to being killed it should be quick and as painless as it can be.
Are there bad apples in the US. Sure just like there is in th UK or any other country in the world.

The United states stopped testing for BSE. And with LFTB(pink slime) we can eventually far surpass the cases that UK has.

yes STOPPED. The preferred tests are much "cheaper" and unless the animal is in an advanced age(very unusual in our beef industry) will invariably test negative. This does not mean the animal is safe, just the test will not come positive.

... And I am the one that blindly trusts the government?

Anyone fancy dioxins flavoured Baltic fish to add to the mercury laden Arctic fish and the condemned horsemeat and what else?...

Swedish salmon sales 'breached EU ban' over dioxins

... Dioxins spread by incineration and chemical pollution can accumulate in the body over years and can trigger cancer or reproductive abnormalities.

The European Food Safety Authority says that, on average, Baltic herring and wild Baltic salmon are respectively 3.5 and five times more contaminated with dioxins than non-Baltic herring and farmed salmon.

So... More of the truth leaks out... Likely 6% contaminated with Bute...

FSA delayed plans to test every horse before crisis

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) explored the idea of testing all horses slaughtered in the UK months before the horsemeat food crisis began in January.

[...]

Without the faster tests, it is likely that meat tainted with phenylbutazone continued to enter the food chain.

[...]

The number of horses presented for slaughter in the UK has doubled in recent years, with more than 9,000 animals killed at the five approved abattoirs in 2012. Most of the meat was exported to Europe.

... From its extra testing, the FSA learned that around 6% of horses were positive for bute, meaning that potentially hundreds of animals with the drugs in their system were going into the food chain. ...

This is a good reminder for how important is the quality of our food. And for how vulnerable we are for how that food is processed or adulterated:

Iodine deficiency 'may lower UK children's IQ'

... It had been thought that the UK had dealt with its iodine problem decades ago by "lucky accident". Changes to dairy farming meant cows' milk contained more iodine and at the same time the government was encouraging people to drink more milk.

Other countries - including the US, Denmark and the Netherlands - added iodine to salt so that bread and processed foods became a major source of iodine.

However...

A prelude to Soylent grey?

EU boffins in plan for 'more nutritious' horsemeat ice cream

'Disused' animal products ideal...

... a brilliant method of creating "enriched" ice-cream, fortified with "disused" animal products which are normally thrown away by the meat industry as being unfit for human consumption.

A press release issued by an EU-funded "research media centre" breaks the news of the stunning developments achieved by Brussels' "Prospare" and "Rosano" projects. We are told...

And so onto the next sliming:

Cattle infected with TB sold and served to schools, hospitals and the military

The meat is banned by most supermarkets and burger chains...

Only banned by most?!

Has nothing honest been learnt from the all too recent mad cow disease scandal?

"We originally called it soylent pink," [retired microbiologist Carl] Custer told The Daily. ...

(Disclaimer: All just personal comment as always.)

Is this where the mass-produced food Market teaches the next generation to EXPECT and to yearn for the next super-sweet slime products?...

Read for yourself:

Baby weaning foods found 'lacking'

Most contained fewer nutrients than homemade food, and only as much as the breast milk they were supplementing.

And their sweet taste may steer the infant palate towards unhealthy choices, the researchers fear.

Babies have an innate preference for sweet foods, which might explain why sweet ingredients feature so prominently in commercial products...

Unfortunately and badly unhealthily, no surprise with this one:

Saturated fat pledge 'a drop in the ocean'

A pledge by food manufacturers to cut saturated fat levels is "a drop in the ocean" in the fight against obesity, a top public health expert has said...

... Prof Ashton said that, while it was "a good thing that some companies are making food that has less saturated fat than before", the pledge did not go far enough.

"They need to ensure that at the same time they lower the sugar and salt that they have used to make foods more tasty as a result of lowering the fat content."

He added: "This announcement is a drop in the ocean in comparison with the scale of the obesity crisis. "We cannot rely on the voluntary approach of the responsibility deal to solve this problem. It now lacks credibility and can be seen as a feeble attempt by the industry to save face."...

All in the bad name of exploitation and the paying consumers and surrounding environment be damned?...

The DoH said cutting the amount of saturated fat in people's diets by 15% could prevent around 2,600 premature deaths every year from conditions such as heart disease and stroke.
God forbid anyone should be permitted to die from a nice quick heart attack. They must all whither away in a care home with tubes in them.

"They need to ensure that at the same time they lower the sugar and salt that they have used to make foods more tasty as a result of lowering the fat content."
How dare people make food tasty? It's meant to taste of cardboard, don't they realise this?

a sugary drinks tax
Aha, their facade has slipped, now we see what this is really about!
Taxing sugary drinks won't solve the problem, that'll just stop the poorer families (who i expect make up most of the market) from buying fruit.
Education, that's the answer, not yet more taxes!
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.
