No apologies from me will be forthcoming, I stand by my original statement. It is not right to use animals in this way, in macabre experiments, particularly as it could enter into our own food chain. I think that institutions that conduct and condone these sort of experiments are wrong. If I could press a button and wipe this guy, Porton Down, and Huntingdon Life Sciences off the face of this earth, I would do so, and I would sleep soundly at night afterwards. I didn't know you were a rabid vegan. Thought a birdie told me you occasionally enjoy blood pudding, haggis and fish and chips. The birdie could have been wrong. Good for you finally becoming a vegetarian. As a self professed animal lover your first stop should be dealing with the terrible and cruel farming practices that meat eaters support. Its way worse than anything done to animals being used for research (not that I condone either) and far more widespread. Personally I don't believe there is anything unnatural about humans eating meat, but I never thought is was acceptable to put them through a life of torture and misery before hand. The sheep were being kept very close to a slaughter house for other "normal" sheep. It would take very little for "non human portions"(likely cross contaminated) to enter the food chain. In many cultures Canibalism is still frowned upon. They were? The article (and your quote) says that the sheep were to be euthanized in a nearby lab, and as far as I could see said nothing about any possibility of cross contamination. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

The sheep were being kept very close to a slaughter house for other "normal" sheep. It would take very little for "non human portions"(likely cross contaminated) to enter the food chain. In many cultures Canibalism is still frowned upon. They made the television with footage showing the slaughter house next to wear they were kept.. one used for commercial sheep. Unfortunately it was a bit of video made by conspiracy theorists that.. well I had to dig deeper to see what in fact they were talking about. That video presented them as "half human/half sheep".. which by the information I can find is not correct. BUT.. there was a small element of truth to it. A university having a lab and a slaughter house near by? That part does not sound remotely difficult to believe. I really wish I could have a commercial food source I could trust.. it would save me a lot of money. But at least I eat food that actually has flavor this way. Janice |

I really wish I could have a commercial food source I could trust I think you are looking for a food source that shares your values and you can trust. Of course if you want perfection, it hasn't been invented yet. |

I really wish I could have a commercial food source I could trust um... it has been invented. It just got lost in the last 100 or so years. But you do not get it by ordering through a plastic clown. Janice |

... But you do not get it by ordering through a plastic clown. Whether from an American yellow and red clown, an Irish pixie, or an innocent looking Dutch daffodil, you are likely eating more than you bargained for: Beef contaminated with horse meat may have been sold in Britain for 'years' Supermarkets might have been selling beef contaminated with horse meat for years because of lax food regulations ... The scale of horse meat contamination emerged on Tuesday, when the Food Safety Authority of Ireland said it had tested 27 beefburger products. More than a third had tested positive for horse DNA, including one Tesco Value beefburger in which 29 per cent of the “beef†content was in fact horse meat. ... ... “greed†might have led to horse meat being passed off as beef. “Horse meat would be a quarter of the price of the beef [protein], so greed is a motivator,â€... ... ... And what else I wonder... I typed too soon... It's already on its way: Avaaz: Stop the Frankenfish attack ... Worse, FDA's approval of transgenic salmon could open the floodgates for genetically modified animals worldwide. We ask that you reject its approval. From my own observations, we've seen the 'Monsanto genetic attack' on plant farming to control the markets, the farmers, and the food source, all for monopolistic higher profits for Monsanto... (And the environment and humans be damned?...) Now is there to be even worse for farming fish and other livestock?... (And the environment and humans be damned?... So how do you propose to reduce the population of humans on the planet to a level where these measures are not required to feed them? |

to a level where these measures are not required to feed them? Food-GM doesn't offer any additional potential for feeding the world. Unless you really believe the marketing hype that is... (What food-GM has done for crops is allowed the poisoning of greater swathes of land so that farmers are forced into buying ever more herbicides and pest controls!... All sold by the same agribusiness...) Value burger contents & the Times food critic's hilarious reply..... "Writing in the Times, food critic Giles Coren bemoaned the public's lack of knowledge about what is in their food. "What on earth did you think they put in them? Prime cuts of delicious free-range, organic, rare breed, heritage beef, grass-fed, Eton-educated, humanely slaughtered, dry-aged [beef], hand-ground by fairies...?" |

(And the environment and humans be damned?... Why are those starving refusing to eat this junk, and instead it is being force fed on an unsuspecting population of.. well US!! To change back would require more PEOPLE, as in more jobs.. as in less disadvantaged populations. Janice |

A gruesome connection?... Horrific cruelty at abattoir caught on film: Footage shows stunned horse waking up just before it is about to have its throat cut ... The horses at the Red Lion Abattoir are believed to be butchered for European food markets. ... Who do you believe for your 'processed' food? (And the environment and humans be damned?... Daily Mail food journalist Joanna Blythman blames the "sheer massiveness" of the supermarket food chain, which she claims is "bound to lead to corners cut and standards compromised". Again, So how do you propose to reduce the population of humans on the planet to a level where these measures are not required to feed them? |

... where these measures are not required to feed them? Such measures are not required for our food. However, in the name of no scruples and unhealthy and cruel profiteering... Again, So how do you propose to reduce the population of humans on the planet to a level where these measures are not required to feed them? That's easy, just continue the way we are doing & wars will take care of that issue. |

... where these measures are not required to feed them? Indeed so... 50% food wastage by supermarkets and their consumers, agribusiness monopolistic practices limiting or restricting food supply, political and corporate corruption adding their own problems... The main food supply shortages in Africa for example are primarily political.
