"On June 6, 2012, the USDA published the final ruling on the amendment of the listing for yeast: Yeast - When used as food or a fermentation agent in products labeled as "organic," yeast must be organic if its end use is for human consumption; non-organic yeast may be used when organic yeast is not available."" USDA remains "The Warning Label". Janice |

I totally support the labelling of all foodstuffs. It's a nightmare doing shopping with the wife & trying to find the foodstuffs that she can eat. |

I totally support the labelling of all foodstuffs. It's a nightmare doing shopping with the wife & trying to find the foodstuffs that she can eat. Any chance of this making the Big Food industry a bit more honest and perhaps more healthy even?... Big Tobacco lawyers target food industry The lawyers who took on the big US tobacco companies, and won, have now set their sights on the food industry. "On a farm about six miles outside this gambling town, Jason Chamberlain looks over a flock of about 50 smelly sheep, many of them possessing partially human livers, hearts, brains and other organs. The University of Nevada-Reno researcher talks matter-of-factly about his plans to euthanize one of the pregnant sheep in a nearby lab. He can’t wait to examine the effects of the human cells he had injected into the fetus’ brain about two months ago. “It’s mice on a large scale,†Chamberlain says with a shrug. As strange as his work may sound, it falls firmly within the new ethics guidelines the influential National Academies issued this past week for stem cell research. In fact, the Academies’ report endorses research that co-mingles human and animal tissue as vital to ensuring that experimental drugs and new tissue replacement therapies are safe for people. Not sure how a determination of "the fun of it" was reached, the article provides a different purpose for the research. Also, it may be a bit late in the day to stop this particular reasearcher, the article is from 2005, though calling for the "so called" university to be discredited based on a single newspaper report on a single aspect of that school's activities, seems to me to be a bit of an overreaction. Before condemning the man and the institution wouldn't it be wise to first ask them for their view on the matter? I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

As long as the reseach is for stem cells in the fight against some diseaes I can see why they would use human cells. But jeez I can see some jackass trying to use human cells in farm aniamals for human comsumption. Hey can I have a Hannibal lecter burger with frys? [/quote] Old James |

The sheep were being kept very close to a slaughter house for other "normal" sheep. It would take very little for "non human portions"(likely cross contaminated) to enter the food chain. In many cultures Canibalism is still frowned upon. Janice |
