We've been contacted by one of the authors of a book/multimedia project called "The Human Face of Big Data." They're looking to interview someone who is heavily involved in SETI@home (lots of computers) and is also participating in SETILive.

If that's you, drop me a line and I'll help you get connected.

Cannot understand why the search is limited to SETI@home volunteers. Einstein@home, just to make an example, is getting its data from LIGO,VIRGO.GEO600, Arecibo, Parkes and many of its users are exploiting GPUs.Test4Theory@home users get data from CERN.

Well, good question, Einstein@home didn't find any extra-terrestrial intelligence, but did find a lot of Pulsars, in data, see above,
mentioned by Tullio.

They may be looking for people involved in other projects. But they would make those requests to the other projects. Nobody would contact me in order to find people who run Einstein@home.

There's several in the top 25 on RAC that spring to mine and a few more in the top 100 overall (just leave NEZ out of it).

Cheers.

I have always been a fan of distributed computing, seti@home and other projects as well. Everything can be simulated by a computer, it's a matter of creating the software simulation and how to code it so work is distributed to the huge number of CPUs & GPUs / APUS in server rooms, or to computers across the world.
In that case, to provide different clients that are optimized for CPUs with different SSE instructions, and even ARM.

I could see folding@home helping to cure a disease one of these days and I know that seti@Home provides a lot of good information about outer space.

I don't have a huge amount of machines running, but I have always tried to get my whole family involved, everyone I know on Facebook, and once I converted a good amount of my college's computer to run them, without their permission. I did that many years ago with the distributed.net project, since the RC work units were short because the computers were restarted often. I wouldn't do something like that these days.

My Asus G50VT laptop is a champ, I've been running Seti@home on the 9800gs GPU and the CPU constantly for years now with no hardware problems.

I don't think I have enough computers to qualify (and 2/3 are crunching Einstein data) but at least it reminded me to register for SETILive. Much more productive use of idle time at work than surfing. :^)

I also thought of Mark...

Nominate me, I am Team Founder of CUDA Crunchers for the SETI@HOME project.

LOL...kitties and crunching.
But, I don't do SETILive.
Just boinking in Berkeley...
So I don't quite fit the criteria.

Nice to know that I come to mind though.
Thanks everybody.

And being famous is never what I am about. Infamous perhaps..

Registering for SETILive yielded interesting results. Coincidentally, a reporter from the Chicago Tribune is doing a story on it, so I agreed to be interviewed about it.

We ended up probably talking more about SETI@Home and the BOINC platform than SETILive. I'll post here when I find out when the story will run and any link to it.
