So, in reading some older posts I understand the reasoning behind not creating an app for mobiles since it would drain the battery but what about programming a BOINC manager for mobiles that only runs when the device is plugged in to a power source? It can also monitor the internal temperature sensors to throttle back usage when the device gets too hot. Just thought it would be a great way to get more people involved and may even lead to them installing it on their desktops/laptops later on!

This was brought up very recently on the Numbers Crunching Forum. There apparently is an app in the works. However, it appears to be incredibly slow because the CPU of handheld devices weren't intended for that type of work. Use at your own risk

For several reasons.

They have no math co-processor so they take many times as long to do floating point. They have no cooling. Everything is designed to save battery power.
