I am using KDE on my Linux box and Gnome on my Solaris 11 Virtual Machine. But I like KDE better. Tullio |

Before and after server rack pictures would be nice - I suspect that there will be a lot more room for airflow in the near future :) For fun and giggles, you could also calculate the savings in cable-feet, because I imagine you will be removing a lot more cabling than what you will be replacing, heh. |

Sounds to me that if the failure of a (old) workstation brings progress of installing new servers (and JBOD) to a standstill and that a replacement has to be sourced from a spare at someones house - it might be a worthwhile time to ask if we can get some input of what type of workstation(s) might make suitable replacements/spares. When the specs and general type can be obtained - maybe someone can donate a spare box or perhaps the GPUUG can start a donation run for a/some replacment workstation(s). Keeping the staff up and running seems to be just as vital as new servers.... My 2 cents..... |

Sounds to me that if the failure of a (old) workstation brings progress The setup of the new servers is going to take probably a month or even more, a day spent on a workstation does really not matter IMHO. A new workstation can fail at any moment like an older one, it's not like new stuff wouldn't fail at all, actually sometimes it turns out, that it fails more than the old stuff ever did. Also, unlike the recurring issues with the servers, one failure does not indicate a general problems with the workstations they have. |

Sounds to me that if the failure of a (old) workstation brings progress GPUUG probably has enough left over from Graham's donations for the new servers to buy Dan a new workstation without starting a new campaign. Sounds to me that if the failure of a (old) workstation brings progress We currently have $3,444 in the bank, of which $800 of that is earmarked for the General Fund (which covers our admin costs for things like shipping, bank fees and a backup contingency fund). If they ask us to provide a new desktop, we'll have it to them in short order. Executive Director GPU Users Group Inc. - brad@gpuug.org |

Sounds to me that if the failure of a (old) workstation brings progress I'll second that, very nice to see the new equipment, it sure is a big improvement. Great. |
