Message 1355362 - Posted: 10 Apr 2013, 16:58:39 UTC - in response to Message 1355307.

The Committee of Scottish Bankers (CSCB) is the successor organisation to The Committee of Scottish Clearing Bankers. The Full members are

The Bank of Scotland
Clydesdale Bank
Lloyds TSB Scotland
Royal Bank of Scotland

If Scotland wants independence, then they are on their own financially. Each of those banks issues pound notes anyway. 90% of the Scottish people have simply no idea what Independence will really mean to them, that is the sad part. I just hope that they don't let some rogue politician force it upon them.

and the UK exchequer owns 39% of the Bank of Scotland (HBOS) and 84% or Royal Bank of Scotland (NatWest). That complicates things some what ...

Yes it does. But the Bank of England per se would not, as I understand it, be required to bail Scotland out as a country.

So, we would get our money back (£20billion HBOS and £46 billion RBBS)? If so that would wipe £64 billion of the cumulative debt ...

Another assumption of Salmonds hits the dust.

Nato rejects Alex Salmond claim over Scottish membership

Nato official said: "It appears widely agreed that, as a matter of law, a Scotland which has declared its independence and thereby established its separate statehood would be viewed as a new state. A new state would not be a party to the North Atlantic treaty, and thus not a member of Nato. If it were to choose to apply for Nato membership, its application would be subject to the normal procedure, as outlined in article 10 of the treaty."

But a question mark remains over whether Nato would accept Salmond's terms for joining.
As they have pledged to remove all nuclear weapons.

Lord Robertson, the former Nato secretary general and Labour defence secretary, said : "Does the SNP accept this unambiguous acceptance of the nuclear umbrella? I supervised the entry of seven new members to Nato in 2002 and every one of them had to accept the strategic concept. If the SNP cannot accept the Nato strategic concept then it will simply not get in."

By the time the oil price has finally finished dropping the reserves out
in the North Sea wont be worth all that much anyway.

"With independence, Scotland will control 100% of our revenues, which is what it needs to be able to build a stronger economy and fairer society.

The above taken from Sirius's article....

Fairer society smacks of socialist's redistribution of wealth via tax and spend.
Tax the better off and hand it over to those who least contribute to the system.
Something even Labour is being warned off from doing by their previous and
considered successful post party leader...Mr Blair. Shame for labour as moth-Balls
isn't listening and his parties support is slipping down the poles again.

Does it have to be France; anyway, they drive on the wrong side of the road over
there.

There's always the Isle of White, you see,
With their RHD and LHT,
Plus your still in range of the BBC,
Plus a terrific view across the sea.

Well that's a thought, my oh my
Although we'd have to declare UDI
There's still one thing beyond the pale
We'd still be getting the Waily Fail!

The Isle of Wight, Vectis in Roman times, is a county and the largest island of England, in the English Channel, on average about 3–5 miles off the coast of Hampshire. It has the distinction of being England's smallest county - but for only half of the time. It has been calculated that during high tide Wight's area is slightly less than that of Rutland, but not during low tide. It was an independent kingdom in the 15th century. and until 1995, like Jersey and Guernsey, the island had a Governor. Now it is a recognised postal county, with it's own Lord Lieutenant, and a Westminster MP.

Hey, we could invite unwanted visitors to a picnic on the beach at low tide, I like it :-) Yeah, lets invade, pass the Woad please!

Yar!!...and Sirius can be in charge of immigration, he'd do well in keeping it
under control. Queenie can stay-over at the week ends if she wishes and use
Osborne House or Carisbrooke Castle. The Isle can then be declared a tax haven
and all the big luxury yachts coming in can use Cows for their moorings.

Sorry Bernie...been a very long time since I last visited there.

Bernie for Harbour Master?...and why not - at least he knows the difference
between a Cowes mooring and a Cow mooring....not like some of us...er'!!

Will also need to nominate a capital town for the Isle of Wight?
Scotland has a capital so why not the Isle too.

OK then, I'll take on Immigration and Transport Minister, at least we have a
prison to slam any illegals in.

Plenty of old cannons laying around the place for you to get your hands on, Sirius -
they just need a bit of an overhaul that's all.

UK says "no clear reason" to let independent Scotland use the pound

So, what currency will an independent Scotland use, as it will take several years before it can join the Euro?

Scotland will not be totally independent if it wishes to adopt the pound sterling.
Does anyone actually know what Scotland really wants here? For if they truly
wanted independence then they would have automatically gone on to forming their
own independent currency......I think there playing games here!!

Opinion polls show around 30 percent of Scots are currently in favour of independence, while 50 percent are against.

The above from Winter's attachment....

What about the other 20% of Scott's left, don't they understand the question then!!

Why don't they go and get their own monarch for there must be someone living in
Scotland with blood ties to James the VI.
