If the polls are to believed then it might not happen.

Just one in three Scots wants independence from Britain, poll shows

That's about all it took for the US colonies to revolt

What have Slavs from Eastern Europe have to do with this, we're talking about Scotland, the decision should be left to the Picts.

No they are not, the US unVirgin Islands, American Samoa and Puerto Rico are not seeking to leave US control. Now Texas, that might be another story.

Seems to me that an increasing number of folks are asking Brussels, 'who died and left you king'

They don't wear clothe, they wear Euros -- much more irritating to the skin.

Baz, you'll have to design a Euro gown for them....

Chris, you got to say this though, the mess with the Euro sure has resulted in the British pound and US dollar keeping value.

For the Scots the financial sense is waning -- when North Sea oil was really flowing, that was the time.

...quoted from Sirius's attachment above...
The trouble is that personally he has little time to achieve this where Scotland has all the time in the world to wait for the right moment. The drivers are out of synchronisation and that is dangerously destabilising.

...and when do you think this moment will be, "Ol' sunshine"...If you don't
go for it in 2014 then you'll never have this chance again. Give up on this
Independence notion, Scotland, for your not as big as you'd like to think you are.

Scottish Army

How can you call this merger the Scottish army when it relates to a reduced British Army?

Edit: Which will be reduced even further if Scotland gains independence.

I think we should have a UK wide referendum with the question, "Should we
drop all separate country names and just call the whole lot "Britain"

Just been doing the sums, on the back of an envelope as usual. That shows if Scotland does go independent then Westminster would be run by the Conservatives most of the time.

Now there's a thought.

Historically, There are 4 separate countries, England, Wales, Scotland, & Northern Ireland. Initially Britain was composed of England and Wales, then became Great Britain under the Union with Scotland. Finally it became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland after 1923, which is referred to as the UK.

Incorrect. Northern Ireland is a colony.

Message 1253796 - Posted: 30 Jun 2012, 17:40:02 UTC - in response to Message 1253779.

The main cause of the troubles in Ireland was due to the fact that Paisley & his cohorts wanted to be seen as a seperate country not ruled from Westminster, but at the same time, kept the protection of the crown.

Neither Dublin or Westminster would allow this & as such, Ireland still sees it as a colony.
