The UK will then be called the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland. Whoops, sorry. I changed my mind. Scotland leaves so you take out the "Great". I'm sure the Scots will approve in this slight modification of the UK official name. flaming balloons |

The UK will then be called the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland. Only until 2016, then it'll have to be England & Wales |

The UK will then be called the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland. Are you sure that Eire wants Martin McGuinness. |

No it will not. The full correct name for the UK as it stands now is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". We could of course expand upon this union at the expense of annoying the Argentinians and re-name it, United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Falkland Islands. Well considering Eire's history, I don't think they have much choice. It'll all be down to Dublin & Stormont. If they can work together, then i can see that being one of the reasons why Scotland want independance. Should any of this occur, then it'll be a sad day for the British Isles. Still say my idea of the P.U.B. is workable & it will retain the Union Jack. |

I would be curious to know how much if any corporate oil money is filtering into the Scottish SNP. |

No it will not. The full correct name for the UK as it stands now is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Good point! However, the whole consept of the United Kingdom thing is that it only includes the geographical islands of Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), Ireland and all those other little islands like Jersey and the Isle of Man. The Falklands are a bit too far away I'm afraid will have to remain as they are because they want to be British. flaming balloons |

I would be curious to know how much if any corporate oil money is filtering into the Scottish SNP. Now that is an interesting question. Could it be that the oil companies are feeding the SNP as an independant Scotland can set their own tax rates? ..or does it go much deeper? |

I would be curious to know how much if any corporate oil money is filtering into the Scottish SNP. Could be but as a member of the ECM Scotland will have to in time accept standardised tax rates as set by Europe, which seems not too far off in the distance. The risk here would be if later the UK left the ECM and then set lower tax rates than Scotland could. The question also is how much of the oil in the North Sea would fall in to the hands of Scotland? Not very much at all since upon assigning correctly set territorial water zones most of the oil fields there will fall into UK controlled waters. I'd love to know who put our politicians up for doing silly stunts like this? Does the hierarchy not realise that no one falls for this type of staged photo call, a shot trying to create an image of unity with Scotland by utilising a bowl of Scots porridge oats. Did anyone inform Mr Cameron that not many Scots actually eat porridge anymore and even less of them wear kilts; shock - horror!! Hmmmm The last report I saw on oil production said it might last 20 years at most but the amount recovered would reduce significantly year by year. Unless major investment is put in to explore and develop new fields, these would be west of Shetland. Shetland probably still would not want to follow Scotland and it's politics are still Liberal. And I thought they were having second thoughts on alterntive energy in Scotland as during the last few years at peak demand the overhead routes could not carry the load. And also in high wind conditions they had to switch off as it was too dangerous because there was a chance of short circuits due to cables touching. There was headline story about how much was paid for them not to produce electricity. Putting more overhead routes in is controversial, spoils the views and has environment issues. Underground cables are too expensive, for distances involved. |
