So are we in an outage? Why is there no work?

No signs of an outage, and I've been getting a fairly steady stream of work

I keep getting "not requesting any tasks."

And why would that be a server problem when your client doesn't ask for work?

I don't know whats going on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I have reset the project. I have tried different BOINC versions. Nothing works. All I get when I request tasks is "not requesting tasks" message. Every other BOINC project works fine. It's only SETI I can't get anything from even though it shows it has 100's of thousands of tasks ready to send out.

Bouncing off the limits here.

Pity its all sitting in my download queue:-(

Dropped back to 1 WU per card and with max button pushing only getting enough to keep on average 2 out of 3 cards running.

Shorties and AP's, never a good combination.

If your host isn't asking for work from Seti then eithier you're got No New Tasks set, you're got the Seti Project Suspended, you're got one or more Seti Tasks Suspended, or your Cache is Full already.

Earlier on in a different thread(which i have looked for but cant find)
i mentioned that bandwidth problems or lack of work may be eased if everybody just used stock apps instead of lunatics or other optomised apps.

i was told by a few people that optomised apps weren't a real problem as they weren't about speed but rather about streamlining the code and producing fewer
errors etc. well i just started with the lunatics apps today and ran through every WU twice as fast as i would have normally and have run out of work, which i have never done before, even when loads of people were complaining about the problem.
in fact recently i posted that i had 750 WUs dumped on me and was a bit concerned that i wouldn't be able to complete them.
i do have a different card since those WUs were given to me , evga 460
but that isn't the difference.when i put the card in it errored evry wu out till i realised i couildn't do the wu's i had and i aborted them, only to be rewarded with hundreds of fermi wu's which my new card could crunch.
it has all been wonderful until today.
i think the lunatics lads are tallented and wonderful but optomised apps do speed things up and cause bandwidth problems.
If you have 100 computers capable of 200 wu's a day, then through optimised apps they are capable of doing 350-400 wu's a day, you are doubling the bandwidth required to serve those computers.Graphics cards were blamed and "the genie is out of the bottle" were mentioned along with "not many people use optomised apps".I quite often look at my pendings to see who my wingmen are and two out of three will be using optomised.
Most of the people compaining about lack of work are using optomised apps.
I am one of those now. I am going to stick to 1 wu for the GPU (what is the point of doing 2 or 3 when you can't get any.

On the bright side SETI is one of the few ways you can burn a power supply and GPU ;)

john3760

EDIT don't get me wrong i have nothing against opt apps(i think they are brilliant ,and the people who are writing them)but doing wu's quicker increases
the amount of bandwidth needed and because we have a fixed bandwidth there is only so much work berkley can send us at any given time.

Uhh...indirectly, it can be a server problem combined with Boinc's server sparing antics.

When you can't get your downloads done, they go into retry or project backoff status, and then Boinc says 'reporting XX completed tasks, not requesting new tasks'.

I'm back to using proxies to get a connection happening.

Cheers.

I am still using the stock connection.
I find that it's rather cyclical......(no, not cynical).

If you park on the retry button.....there are a few windows of opportunity when you have to click like mad. Many attempts go into retry, but the ones that do make it come downloading in like crazy.

And then they stall.....all stall.......

I like to think the optimized apps increase efficiency. My suggestion would be to crunch part time as efficiently as possible, but turn off the computer for enough time each day that the amount of work done is similar to full time crunching with the stock apps. Then donate part of the money saved on electricity bills to the project.

I do that now, except for the donating extra money part, right now It's needed elsewhere as My income is pretty small, sorry.

Well drop my flaps. I got a single AP out
of the blue and it downloaded at 39KBs.

Plus Milkyway@Home has come up with some
cuda wus to crunch just as I ran out.

The cold cruelty of the multiverse is offput
for a little while longer.
