Message 1176772 - Posted: 9 Dec 2011, 14:41:42 UTC - in response to Message 1176761.

Server Status page is over 5 hours old

It currently indicates [As of 9 Dec 2011 | 13:30:11 UTC] with the replica showing offline.

Not that it truly tells us what is going in the server closet.

Yeah, it's come back. 99 thousand Multibeam WUs received in the last hour. Shorties obviously, but it's been so dry here one of my GPUs is cold. What's the bright side? no trouble at all with uploads or downloads. LOL

MI am trying to get any further news about that mysterious object which supposedly has been spotted close to the planet Mercury.

Apparently an artefact of the way background subtraction is (initially) done on the images.

Move along, move along, no aliens to be seen here... :-(

What It's not an old Battlestar hanging around Mercury hiding in orbit? If It were It would be quite the find, Of course getting It to Earth orbit might be tougher.

That's the way it's been working....and probably will continue to at the rate the rig is (or is not) getting Seti work. When 1 GPU goes idle, it downloads a batch of Einstein tasks, about 10-20, not sure exactly. It then finishes the Seti work on the remaining 3 GPUs and works on the batch of Einstein tasks until they have finished. If there is Seti work that has been downloaded in the interim, Einstein does not request new work and goes back to the Seti tasks when the Einstein is done and will stay on them until a GPU goes dry again.

That is the setup I have at the moment. Thing is, with dcf being the way it is, seems like after the Einstein WU's download (all GPU) Seti gpu WU's seem restricted to one or two at a time.

Regards

Where (what file) do I change "resource share"? I have SETI at 100 and Einstein at 200 when what I really want is for Einstein to run when SETI has no WUs. Other than deleting Einstein, how do I accomplish this?

Go to your E@H account page, select "Einstein@Home preferences". Then edit the preferences and type in 0 (zero) for the "resource share".
Then, in boinc manager, select e@h project and click update.

Seti at 100 & Einstein at 200 means Einstein gets twice the processing time Seti does.
From memory (someone can confirm?) to set a project as a backup project, give the backup project a resource share of 0. That way it will only run when the other project(s) have no work on your system.

Oh, and the reason for coming here?
My caches (as small as they are due to estimated completion time & server side limit issues) continue to decline as most requests for work are resulting "Project has no tasks available" messages.

Exactly what Khangollo.

With the numbers you set, of 200 & 100, Einstein would get 2/3 of the CPU time and Seti 1/3. Which should be displayed on your Projects tab as 66% and 33%.

Once you have a backup project set it will download work to fill your queue & also continue to check Seti for work. Once it gets work from Seti it will no longer ask for work from Einstein, but will finish process the tasks on your system. Which might mean it switches between Seti & Einstein until all of the Einstein work is done.

Looks like it's now not possible to get enough work w/o manual intervention.
I didn't hit "update" button last few days - how few times was out of work with many tasks wating download and big project backoffs...

NB, after hitting update few times I get quite good download speeds. So, there is some bandwidth available, it's just a server dropping connections!
Bad network config again, apparently...

Still DownLoad problems, clearly a SERVER and bandwidth issue.

But, I also see 2 hosts always having work, probably cause they've never
turned in invalids or (false) overflows (-9). Both running NVIDIA GPUs.

Host X9650+GTX480.
Also

host Q6600+GTX470.

My I7 and 2 ATI 5870 GPUs
works again and I installed 0.39 added the
AstroPulse 'part', also no driver crashes, cat.11.4+ AMD APP (SDK)2.5.
Using 1 for [i]pulse find
and 1 per GPU, cause it has very little work.
Only changes quik if your results validate in a row.

But DownLoads are verrrrrrrrrrryyyy ssssssllooowwwwwwwwwwww, seeing a lot
of Einstein WUs, racing through, makes it kind of weird ;-)
Some button pushing, often helps and it makes a lot of difference which WU you
pick, from the DLoad qeue, I was just watching this, picking the 'right' WU
the whole qeue was DLoaded very quick.

Due to the lack of work (even though it's there waiting to be allocated) one of my systems should be out of GPU work in the next hour or so.

When I am lucky enough to get a few shorties, I've been running empty long before I can get some more. For the last week or so, keeping more than an hour of GPU work has been a rarity. At the moment, it seems we have far more processing power available than the servers can keep up with. The search for ET may have to go through an enormous amount of data before getting any positive hits. The boys in Berkely are doing the best they can with what they have, but crunching conditions now are as difficult as I've seen.

Yeah, and now I see the rigs are starting to have trouble even connecting to the scheduling server to report or ask for work, or internal HTTP errors.

Looks like it's gonna be a long weekend.

There are some parts of the system, on the Server status page, that haven't updated for 7 hours now. Like Current result creation rate, Results received in last hour, Result turnaround time (last hour average), and Transitioner backlog (hours).

Interested parties wants to know, if it's time to batten the hatches? :-)

The kitties are bettin', given Matt's recent news and the way things are hiccupping right now, 'She's gonna crash, Jim.'

This is going to the warm place. Cricket graph is dropping, dropping, dropping. See you all, on the other side of the black hole.

Might be going to the warm place in the Seti server closet, but here in the crunching den it's getting a bit chilly.
Coldest night this year, supposed to get down to 7f, and the crunchers can't get enough Seti to keep the GPUs warm.

It's a shame....I now have my 2 best Seti rigs doing Einstein.

And I'm not happy about that.

My backup CUDA project is Primegrid currently, set to a share of 0.
