so I cant do it my way? Please tell me why I should be forced to do something that isn't important nor will add anything to my thoughts... Ha, bet you thought I was compliant to your rules In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

so I cant do it my way? Please tell me why I should be forced to do something that isn't important nor will add anything to my thoughts... Did not say you had to change your ways, just that there was an established alternative that may help other comprehend your intentions. The rules of language are not mine, they are communal, and they do change. While you may believe that adding an ellipsis does not add anything, I suspect you may be speaking for yourself, for others, the absence of a period may be mistaken for a typo, whereas an ellipsis demonstrates intent. Please don't get me wrong, I make more than my fair share of typographical errors. Still, let's get back to the line that started this tangent: Yes lets discuss grammar instead of issues because tagents are so much more fun than actually talking about the topic at hand I can find two punctuation errors beyond the absent period/ellipsis that you state was a deliberate style choice. There is another more fundamental error, the criticism it alleged, I made no reference to Guy's grammar in the post you responded to, if anything, my critique was one of semantics. Your lack of use of the ellipsis could be an issue of semiotics. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

So all my verbiage is still understood yet you still find it hard to read. I don't recall ever reading that the standards of writing on these forums were mastery of English and proper punctuation. I think most people understand and communicate just fine without needing tutoring on supposed proper writing techniques. Have you ever read anything from 400 years ago. There were no standards. The current ones are so vague as to make it a form of mathematics. So forgive me if I choose not to follow. I'd rather do my own thing. Just thinking of you... ; ) nope I wasn't finished posting. I guess finding fault has its qualities. Though I've yet to see any benefit to your point. If you find my language difficult to understand then perhaps and English lesson or 2 would suffice. If not please stay on your high horse. Some of us don't think ourselves high and mighty. nor compelled to follow arbitrary rules that you insist on having In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

[img]http://xkcd.com/386/ Clearly my comments have not been understood. I did not insist you follow arbitrary rules. Please find where I have said anything of the sort. I have also not said that I find your language difficult to understand. Please find where I have said anything of the sort. It might help if you read what I have written, rather than what you apparently think I have written, they do not appear to have anything to do with one another. Rather than be defensive, why not see my comments as constructive criticism? If anybody needs an English refresher perhaps it's the person who mistakes a comment on semantics for one on grammar ... And now to pack for my vacation. See you in a couple of weeks. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Constructive criticism is great when asked for and nothing more than annoying white noise when volunteered from strangers that may or may not know what they are talking about. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Constructive criticism is great when asked for and nothing more than annoying white noise when volunteered from strangers that may or may not know what they are talking about. LOL. Avoid the challenges for you to defend your accusations, and use a tautology to imply it is me that does not know what I'm talking about. While it was not accurate, it seems to me that: Yes lets discuss grammar instead of issues because tagents are so much more fun than actually talking about the topic at hand was intended as a constructive criticism, as it appears to suggest I should stay on topic. Given that it was not asked for, and was factually incorrect, would you describe it as "annoying white noise"? I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Hey Chris, thanks for helping out skildude with the link. Perhaps you can help him answer the questions I asked ... Could you not have said, "Oh BTW, happy Christmas to both of you" Or even, "Oh BTW, happy Christmas both of you" and again but in impolite form, "Oh BTW, happy Christmas you two" What do you reckon, Chris? Anyway...Happy Christmas Chris, happy Christmas Bobby, happy Christmas Skildude.
