The person who started the thread can rename it and by adding words such as, "-Closed" to the title which means that there is no more need to post to that thread. In this case, another (shorter) thread was created to continue the subject.

For the record, I didn't close the thread as in "kill", but closed as in "relocated". Tom was right about who can "close" a thread. The inital author can edit the thread "status" (actually it's just the name of the thread that gets changed, nothing else) by adding the words "Closed", "Cerrado", or whatever.

Since I didn't begin the political thread, I can't close that one. Second, this thread (now in its sixth reincarnation) is the longest thread in the forum's history. I would have been really stupid to kill it.
