For jobs that can stay in the available cache, then a big fast yes. For jobs that are too big for the cache, then you get some performance improvement depending on how the cache is utilised. However... From my tests, I've found the most significant improvement for s@h is to use the fastest system RAM available to you for reasonable cost. Also, make sure you have enough system RAM to accommodate your OS and all the s@h jobs. Also note that GPUs are beginning to leave CPUs a long way behind for Boinc crunching. My preference for speed and less OS-overhead (no anti-virus needed!) is to use Linux. The major difference is the presence or lack there of the L3 cache. Phenom II has it the Athlons don't. I have an Athlon 630(2.8Ghz) running with my ATI 5850 and a Phenom II 965(3.4Ghz) running with my ATI 6970. Both have about the same RAC. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face.
