Gripe: Two rigs out of GPU units and across all rigs over 2,000 units stuck somewhere in the "ether". The download situation sux.

Gripe:- after upgrading to a double-precision GPU (hard to find & expensive on an AGP slot) this PC recently completed one AstroPulse task running continuously that took +/- 23 hours, credit = 730. The GPU was used for only 2-3 seconds every minute, so it's vastly under-used. BUT - the GPU is blocked from running any other GPU task from any other project for the entire time the AP task runs. The same PC running CPU & GPU mixed projects continuously, produced 11,688 credits in roughly the same time, with the GPU running 96/7% all the time. That's why I took the trouble & expense of buying the graphics card. I've taken Astropulse off my list of projects until tasks utilise a workable GPU to the maximum :-(

Gripe: The 2 BILLION tasks has pushed the limits, resulting in an extra long outage.

Kudos: Everyone is remarkably calm about it.

Gripe: Still not enough WU downloaded. And Monday is coming up fast (three day outage). Average work going down below 19,000 when it was up almost 30,000. It seems that the radio telescope is not sending enough info to be analyzed.

Gripe: (probably covered in some older thread) The version of Boinc on my newest computer (6.12.34) has a Notices tab I don't care about instead of a Messages tab I do care about -- a lot.

This morning I got 24 tasks to download however as soon as the tasks started to download I got nothing but HTTP ERRORS!!!

GRIPE!

Hanging D/L's or can not reference site.

Out of work AGAIN.

I don't have a crunching farm just a amd955 and gtx280. But this out of work, no work, or cant connect to reference site is getting old. Is there anything we can do or hook up somewhere to get reliable UP and DOWN loads..

I understand if seti is out of work but the frustration I have now is getting troublesome.

NOTHING to cruch but the few remaining WUs with nothing for GPU for a long time now. The catch never did fill to 10 days. Been getting 10 or so units then nothing for HOURS. When my puter is idling at 70F on cpu when running 9 windows i know there is no 603 work units, When idling at 38C on the GPU i know there has not been 610 work units for a long time.

here is the log for the last few hours. Its from BoincTask not the Boinc manager. I have tried both Boinc and BoincTask to get wu's and just about nothing. Just more project servers down. No work, nothing for 603<cpu> 610<gpu> and 505<astropulse CPU> . The question becomes with so poor comunications from Seti Command to us little guys that have put our hardware up to help and begin to feel ignored because of problems and lack of major comunications to let us know what the H... is going on. <more after log>

checked the server page and all are green , showing work ava, and yet! get no work to give out.. so ether the server page is lying, or there is a bit bug... many reports of going from 6.12 to 6.10 say that fixes it.. so what is the story??

We need the following.

1> Info on what is going on with this UP/Down hang ups retries no work long delays failure to get a reliable file transfer going. Roll back to 6.10 or is there a fix?? what do we have to do ....

2> why is there so little info coming out of seti command. Help keep us informed on what the hold up is.

3> is there anything we can do to help? as I want Seti to continue and be the premier boinc project.

4> I feel we need a bit more info, if not I think many good crunchers will leave and not look back. I feel we, as a group that are not huge crunchers, being left in the dark and strung out. We dont know about rewriting XMP app data or configs, we just want it to work.

I dont normally complain but this is getting seriously old and bothersome. Can we bother some of the companies to donate more band width or do we need to code help you all to get a good boinc manager/seti up/downloader going. Its unforgivable when my friends puter on a 56K modem works faster then a 6Mip broadband connection. at the best speed i am getting now i feel i am back in the 24Kbaud modem days on an X or W window transfer.

I have been on for a bit . like ummm 12 years crunching every day i could even when overseas in the military. I am no fancy programer , was happy to get my vid card to crunch, Thanks to the team at lunatics<sp?> but the problems over the last couple of years are getting worse not better in my opinion. I know the hard work to keep it up, However working in IT this level of reliability should make people ashamed. Fix the basics and then go back to the science.

I hope you understand the frustration many of us feel , I am frustrated! I enjoy helping seit. I want seti to do well and succeed.

So this is a gripe...

Its the lack of communications to the user base. Lack of a reliable manager, and up/down load program out of seti. Lack of work. Lack of a trustable server informer web page.

Gripe: That I can have two machines in the top 20 when my RAC's are under 55K. Not long ago, an RAC of 70K wouldn't get me on the first page.

I started having problems with the monitor locking up and not responding this AM. I stopped the screen saver and it still happened. The Cuda is set to start after 3.5 min of inactivity and that is about how long it took. Having to reboot the machine every time I want to use it is unacceptable. I have set to no GPU and aborted all 6.09 (cuda 23) tasks.

BTW, guys, we are here to help them not the other way round.
