Gripes: Another stretch of Shorties, No AP's and Me Green Star that should have lasted till Feb. ;( Kudos: A BIG Shout out to the shoestring Staff who do quite well with keeping stuff running and keeping Us with some WU's. Even if they aren't AP's. ;)) I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Gripes: Another stretch of Shorties, No AP's and Me Green Star that should have lasted till Feb. ;( Gripe: size 5 made the above text so small I had to click the quote button to read it normal size. I changed it to size 8 in the quote and now it's readable while still producing the desired effect. Kudo: that's my only gripe at the moment. Also, thanks for showing me how to do a text size setting. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Only gripe.... The problems in cutting through the Berk politics to get some sorely needed additional bandwidth for this science project. They should be more supportive. Kudos... Many and varied. The dedication of the small staff (da boyz in da lab, as I like to call them) that keep this project afloat with their meager resources. And the tremendous things the GPUUG (shameless plug, my team) has been able to do for the project with the wonderful support from you dudes and dudettes, my fellow participants. Without all your dedication and passion for this project, it would not be where it is now, and that, my friends, is in a very good place. I spend more time out of work than working. All six of my machines are out of work. I Have been this way since last Thursday. I have tried the no new work option but my update request just time out. I have a lot of results to report, but nothing helps. I had hope this would be fixed after the Tuesday maintenance shutdown. No luck. I see a lot of people talking about it on the boards. The server status page says work is available, but we are not getting it. Do the system administrators even know this is happening. It is discouraging to a lot of people because these type issues just never go away. I even increased my buffers to try and ride out these regular problems. This time even that was not enough.[/b] |

Dannis: I've had this prob b4, all I did was a sys reboot on computer and it cleared up. My issue may not b the same as yours but worth a quickie try. Cud just b a buffer hangup. |

Gripe: ... and yet host 5893094 has over 5000 WUs and they are oh-so-very-slowly timing out. Can someone please, please cancel the WUs on that host and block it? Right now it is a wingman-of-death. I have been waiting over 1 month for WU 1088698302 to be returned. It looks like I'm going to have to wait at least another week before it gets handed out again, like the 5000+ other volunteers who are waiting and waiting for work / validation. Kudos: Yay. The database issues were fixed. Someone still cares :) |

I hear you AMDave, we all have to deal with those occationally. Nothing to be done, but wait it out. If my wingperson is someone I know, I just send them a PM and asked them to get with it. Got one completed a day before it was set to expire. So Kudos to the Kittyman and a very big Kudo to who ever got the scheduler issue fixed. Pluto will always be a planet to me. I do have another gripe. Some of you pay attention to the User of the Day thread. It erks(?) me, when I see someone is elected, that hasn't crunched in years/month. How hard is it, to set the random generator to >1 RAC? This should be for active users only. Right now, I feel it is a sham. Kudos for Eric picking up the slack on keeping us informed. I do have another gripe. I agree completely. Gripe: People posting spam in NC topics. Kudos: Uli's comment above. |

Gripe: People posting spam in NC topics. People posting off topic in any of the threads- but particularly the News & Tech News threads. I notice there's a new post there, go to see what it's about & it's just someone using it to make noise with no releavance at all to the thread. Kudos, the Scheduler appears to be holding up. After 27+million credits since July 1999, I have decided to end work on SETI@home. Seeing other projects (Docking@home, Eistein@home, LHC@home 1.0, Milkyway@home, rosetta@home, The Lattice Project, and World Community Grid) work efficiently & seamlessly, and realizing the effort I need to maintain work on SETI@home, led me this decision. Good luck to SETI and all crunchers. Goodbye. |

I, for one, choose to forever try to participate in this project in the biggest way I can. It is sometimes limited by my hardware, sometimes by the Seti servers. But, it is my quest. OUR quest. Given the small budget available, and the remarkable number of folks wanting to participate in a big way, and the computing power of hosts increasing every day, it is no wonder that that project cannot seem to build itself up enough, fast enough, to keep up. The kitties will continue to bite and scratch for every single byte of Seti data that they can process and return home. When it is not enough to keep their kibble bowls full, they shall wander off in search of a few other crunchables......... But every moment, returning to home to see if there might be just one more Seti WU to be had. It is my quest. OUR quest. Meow. My computers have had no communication with SETI since yesterday. I have 14 units queued up (completed) but there are no units uploading or downloading. I have hit 'Update Project' numerous times. What can I do to get things moving again? |

My computers have had no communication with SETI since yesterday. I have 14 units queued up (completed) but there are no units uploading or downloading. I have hit 'Update Project' numerous times. Nothing, just be patient. Monitor the Cricket Graphs. The servers crashed at about 1850 local time Monday night. Someone was in the lab Tuesday around noon trying to get things restarted, but it isn't back up yet. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |
